Tense?
The past progressive tense 
>is used to describe an ongoing activity in
the past. 
>It indicates action in progress at some
point in the past.
>It also shows a short duration of time and
can be used to show that something
happened while something else was
happening.
•John was baking a
cake.
•They were painting the
fence.
•Often, the past progressive
tense is used to set the scene
for another action. For example:
•John was baking a cake when
the storm started.
•They were painting the fence
while I was cutting the grass.
•Past tense of "to be"
verb + (base form + -ing)

What is the Present
Progressive Tense?
The present progressive
tense is used for an ongoing
action in the present. 

•John is baking a cake.


•They are painting the fence.
Even though it is a present tense, the
present progressive tense can also be used
to describe an activity that is going to
happen in the future (especially for planned
activities). For example:
•We are moving to New Zealand in the
summer.
•The train is arriving in 2 minutes.
What Is the Future
Progressive
Tense?
The future progressive tense is
used for an ongoing action that
will occur in the future. For
example:

•John will be baking a cake.


•They will be painting the fence.
• The Moscow State
Circus will be performing
in Cheltenham for the
next 3 weeks.
• We will be celebrating
like kings if it works.
• Future progressive
