HISTORY

Department of Public Works and Highways or

DPWH has been long withstanding as the
infrastructure arm of the Philippines. It started
during the Spanish Colonial Era. t was in 1900s
when the transportation depended on roads. At
this period, the construction of highways in the
Philippines seemed to be impossible. It was
during in the American Period when the
roadways were developed in the Philippines.

these streets ordinarily incorporate offices
that gather cost expenses for section in an
open or shut framework.
HISTORY

In 1976, the expressway was extended by another 29

kilometers (18 mi) from Alabang up to Calamba, Laguna.
The project included the 1.2-kilometer-long (0.75 mi)
viaduct which crosses over Alabang called Alabang Viaduct.
This later on became the boundary when the PNCC decided
to split SLEX into two concessions which renamed the
Magallanes to Alabang segment as the South Metro Manila
Skyway System while the Alabang to Santo Tomas segment
retained the South Luzon Expressway concession branding.

HISTORY

From the time the first rail tracks were laid in the Manila-
Dagupan Ferrocaril line in 1891 and the colonial train had its
first commercial run, until today when the Mainline South
(Bicol line) is being rehabilitated under much public
anticipation, Philippine trains have been running for 120
years.

From the Manila center towards Baguio in the north, the line
ended in Damortis, La Union while south line stopped in
Legazpi City in the Bicol Peninsula. From here to there and
back it carried people and their goods, their trade and
livelihood. From here to there it ferried passengers and
freight, towards beginnings and ends, transitions and
celebrations.
