RECAP

• This schedule method of data collection is very much

like the collection of data through questionnaire, with
little difference which containing a set of questions) are
being filled in by the enumerators who are specially
appointed for the purpose.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

> Explain the schedule contains, questions, statements

and blank spaces for filling up the respondents.
> To understand the purpose of the schedule in research
work.
> To provide a standardized tool for observation or
interview in order to attain objectivity.
SESSION OUTCOMES
• Students will follow the most important scheduling method for
gathering information.
• Students will be able to prepare the document by index.
• Students will be able to gather they correct information through
an index.
• Schedule is a flexibility with performance and satisfaction in the
work.
INTRODUCTION
• Schedule is it tool or instrument used to collect data from the respondents
while interview is conducted. Schedule contains questions, statements and
blank spaces/tables for filling up the respondents. It is standardized device
or tool of observation to collect the data in an objective manner.
MEANING OF SCHEDULE

• A schedule is like a questionnaire which

contains a set of questions. The question
and the interviewer records the answers or
an instrument which is called as schedule.
DEFINITIONS OF SCHEDULE

• According to Goode and Hatt: " Schedule is the name

usually applied to a set of questions which are asked and filled in by
the investigator in a face to face situation with another person.”
• According to G.A Lundberg :" The schedule is device for
isolating one element at a time thus intensifying our observation."
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF SCHEDULE

Some of the aims and objectives of schedule are as follows:

1. Aids to delimit the scope of the study.
2. Acts as a memory in tickler.
3. Helps in classification and analysis.
4. Standardized device.
1) AIDS TO DELIMIT THE SCOPE OF THE STUDY:

The schedule always focuses on a definite item in inquiry, single

and isolated subject, rather than a subject in general. The
researcher asks about out one item and writes down answers
about it. Therefore schedule delimits and specifies the subject of
inquiry.
2) ACTS AS A MEMORY TICKLER :

• Another objective of schedule is to act as a memory tickler.

In interview, the interviewer has to ask a wide range of
questions to the respondent. While doing this he may forget
to ask about some important aspects of the research problem
and then may require going for the whole process again to
collect that missing information.
3) HELPS IN CLASSIFICATION AND
ANALYSIS :

• Another objective of schedule is to help in the

work of tabulation classification and analysis. In
case of narrative interview, the interviewee
provides the information in a story form.
4) STANDARDIZED DEVICE :

• Schedule also provides a standardized device for observation

and interview. In a structured schedule every responded gives
reply to the same question, put in the same language, in the
same sequence. So the entire process of interview on
observation takes place under standardized conditions.
TYPES OF SCHEDULE :

According to P. V Young - Different types of schedule are as follows.

1) Observation Schedule
2) Rating Schedule
3) Documents Schedule
4) Interview Schedule
5) Institutional Schedule
1) OBSERVATION SCHEDULE :

• Schedules can be used in observation research are

called as observation schedules. In this method,
observer records the activities and responses of a
worker or group under specific conditions. It main
purpose is to verify information.
2) RATING SCHEDULE :

• In social research rating schedules are used when

information is to be collected about attitudes, opinions,
preferences, inhabitions and other like elements and
their value is to be assessed and value of each is
required to be measured.
3) DOCUMENTS SCHEDULE :

• In this schedule whole study is based on

certain schedules e.g. studies which deal with
the writing of history etc. With the help of
these documents certain questions are asked
about the life history of a person and on the
basis of replies received efforts are made to
construct life history.
4) INTERVIEW SCHEDULE :
• Interview schedule is used for
testing as well as collecting data as
well as for the collection of
supplementary data. The informant
takes the schedule with him and
interviews the respondent and fills
in the forms.
5) INSTITUTIONAL SCHEDULE :

• There are in every society some specialised

institutions and agencies. These schedule are
used to collect information about them. The
nature and Complexity of the institution decides
about the size of the schedule.
SUMMARY
• This scheduling method is very important
since it uses querying for the collection of
information at the present time. And it is
this methodology that is able to collect the
important things in today's society.
