“background information arm” of the
podcast
preliminary greetings, name of the
teacher-podcaster, and name of school.
Additional details such as grade level
and review of the previous lesson may
be included.
EXAMPLE 1:
Hello, kids! Welcome to this another exciting
podcast episode today. I’m your teacher, Maricon
Calizo-Campo from Baggao National School of
Arts and Trades. Prepare yourselves because I
will drive you to another enjoyable and exciting
destination.
EXAMPLE 2:
Hello kids! I hope you are all okay and ready to listen to our next learning
episode. This is your teacher-podcaster Maricel L. De Leon from Gattaran West
Central School, Gattaran West District.
Last time, you learned about present tense. Didn’t you? What is present
tense? Present tense refers to an action that is happening now. How do we form
the present tense of a verb with singular subject? We form the present tense of a
verb with singular subject by adding –s, -es or –ies. How about the present tense
of a verb with plural subject? We just use the base form of the verb.
PART II- LESSON PRESENTATION
presentation of the topic at hand
discussion objective/s is
also included in this part.
EXAMPLE 1:
Have you ever tried reading a text or a story? Did you ever
experience listening to your teacher while she is reading a story in class?
And after that, she will ask some questions about what was read to check
your reading comprehension? So, what strategy did you use to answer the
questions?
You might answer me that you noted the important details while
listening. Oh wow! I think I got what’s on your mind.
Well, today is another amazing episode because I will help you
develop your skills on NOTING DETAILS.
EXAMPLE 2:
Today children, we will discuss one tense of the
verb that refers to an action that is already finished,
and that is the PAST TENSE. Our episode focuses on
Identifying and Forming the Tense of the Verb
particularly on Past Tense.
PART III- DISCUSSION
Discussion is the meat of the podcast. In this
segment, the teacher discusses the topic through
various approaches deemed appropriate.
Approaches may include definition of key
concepts, giving examples, and providing
explanations among others.
EXAMPLE 1:
When we say NOTING DETAILS, it is a reading comprehension skill that involves
picking out from a piece or pieces of information to achieve a given purpose. I hope
everyone is already equipped with the different reading skills.
Let’s talk about details first. Always remember that DETAILS are part of a whole.
These are the small elements that collectively constitute a work. Now, these details are the
ones that good readers notice, and authors use to emphasize the events and the characters
in the story.
Details are divided into two categories. One is IMPLICIT DETAILS and
the other one is EXPLICIT DETAILS.
1. IMPLICIT DETAILS are the details that we cannot really see.
2. EXPLICIT DETAILS are the details that we can see and are measurable.
Do you know the techniques on noting details? Here are the
techniques on how to note details:
First, always read the story with full understanding and
internalize the lines printed. And second, jot down notes or highlight
texts. You will know that you’re doing the right thing when things
you’ve taken down describes the main idea and the supporting ideas.
Therefore, when one notes details, he keeps a brief record of
something on a piece of paper such as the characters, the setting and
the plot of the story. That’s how cool and easy noting details.
EXAMPLE 2:
As I have said, PAST TENSE refers to an action that is already
finished. In forming the past tense of regular verbs, you just add –d or
–ed to the base form. Yes, it’s either –d or –ed. Time expressions also
help you in identifying the tense of the verb.
Example. I walked yesterday.
What is the verb in the sentence? Is it in its base form? No, it
isn’t. Therefore, what did we add to show that the verb is in its past
form? Yes, we added –ed. When did I walk? Did it happen already?
Yes, our time expression is yesterday.
Let us take again these examples.
1. Mother baked my birthday cake last month.
- What is the verb in the sentence? It’s baked. In what tense is the
verb? Why is it in its past form? Because of the –d that is added to the base
form which is bake. What time expression is used? Yes, it’s last month.
Let’s proceed to number 2.
2. Father planted mahogany seedlings in our tree garden last week.
- What is the verb used in the sentence? Good. It’s planted. Is it in
its past form? Yes, because of the –ed that is added to the base form. How
about the time expression used? Yes, last week.
For the last sentence,
3. My mother scolded me because I was noisy in the church last Sunday.
- What is our verb? Good. It is scolded. What is added to the base
form of the verb? It’s –ed. How about the time expression? It’s Sunday.
PART IV- SKILL ENHANCEMENT
- Skill enhancement provides opportunities for
the learners to deepen their mastery on the
topic. In this segment, the teacher- podcaster
may provide more examples, drills, or exercises
that facilitate transfer of learning.
EXAMPLE 1:
So why don’t you get another sheet of paper and a pen because
I’ll be reading to you another interesting story and let’s see how good
you are this time in noting details. There are questions again so listen
carefully. Are you ready? Let’s start.
Story:
Once there was a girl who loves to eat chocolates, candies, fries
and burgers. She would always spend her money to buy her favorite junk
foods. She is Tanya, a grade four pupil studying at Maharlika Elementary
School. One recess time, Tanya cried because she had a toothache. Her
teacher brought her to the clinic. The dentist told her she had cavities in
her teeth caused by the candies and chocolates she eats almost every
day. Tanya promised herself not to eat candies and chocolates
anymore.
That’s the end of the story. Let’s check if you really noted
details. Ready your notes now. Let’s start.
Question no.:
1. Who is the girl in the story?
a. Ana
b. Tanya
c. Angelica
The correct answer is letter B. It’s Tanya.
2. What are Tanya’s favorite foods?
a. ice cream and candies
b. chocolates, candies, fries and burgers
c. sandwich, soft drinks and fries
If you answered letter B, that’s correct. Let’s
proceed to question no…
3. What is the name of Tanya’s school?
a. Magsaysay Elementary School
b. Maharlika Elementary School
c. Mabuhay Elementary School
4. Where did Tanya’s teacher bring her?
a. kitchen
b. school
c. clinic
And for the last question. Make sure you do
well here.
5. Why did Tanya stop eating chocolates?
a. Because the dentist told her she had
cavities
b. Because she had no more money to
buy foods
EXAMPLE 2:
You are all doing good children! Now, here is another activity for your mastery. Get
your pens and notebooks. Are you ready?
I will read each sentence then identify the verb used.
1. Linda visited her grandmother last Monday.
2. My teacher asked me a difficult question.
3. She watered the plants because they were dying.

Okay children, let’s check your answers.

What is the verb in sentence number 1? Correct! It’s visited. How about in
sentence number 2? Yes, it’s asked. And for the last number? What is the verb? Very
good! It’s watered.
Are you ready for our next activity?
You are to form the past tense of the following verbs. You just add –d
or –ed to the base form of each verb.
1. shout- 2. cook- 3. erase-
Okay, are you done children? It’s time to check how far you have
understood our lesson.
The first word is shout. To form its past tense, what did you add?
Good. It’s –ed. So, the past tense of shout is shouted.
How about in number 2? What did we add? Yes, the past tense of
cook is cooked.
In number three, the verb is erase. What did you add to form its
past tense? Good. It’s d. Erase becomes erased.
PART V- WRAP- UP
Wrap – Up entails giving a summary
or review of the lesson. This
segment presents a recapitulation of
the lesson.
EXAMPLE 1:
Congratulations kids! I know you did a great job in
answering all the questions. And what is noting details again?
NOTING DETAILS is about taking notes of some of the
important details in the story or text; from the characters, the
setting and the plot. It will lead you to easy understanding of
the text or story read.
EXAMPLE 2:
Excellent kids! You are allfast learners! Are you
enjoying?
Again, what tense of the verb have we discussed? What is PAST
TENSE? Past tense refers to an action that is already finished.
How do we form the past tense of regular verbs? We form the
past tense of regular verbs by adding- d or – ed to the base form of the
verb.
PART VI-

Outro provides an appropriate ending for
the podcast episode. This segment may
include leave greetings, reminders, and
reiteration of name of teacher- podcaster.
