History of DEW
 Established by British India in 1926 – almost 94 years of
heritage

The heritage of British Era at DEW

History of DEW

Until 1965 the yard was operated by


British companies

In 1965 EPIDC took over the management


of the yard

After the independence 1971, the Yard was


placed under BIDC and then BSEC

 The yard had experienced ups and downs during its
94 years of journey

 It was laid off in 2002 due to huge losses

 In 7 December 2007, DEW was handed over to


Bangladesh Navy. Since then, it started to regain its
glory

The yard is a profitable independent enterprise under the Ministry of
Defence, managed and operated by BN
Since taken over by BN, the sick yard was revived with significant
achievement like :
• Capital Enhancement
• Positive Profit Graph
• Employment Generation
• Total Capacity Building
