Unit 2

Evaporation and condensation

Lesson 2
Getting the water back.
The Big Idea!!!
Condensation and
evaporation are part of
water cycle and recycle
the water on Earth
Steam
Steam is very hot water vapor made when water boils.
Condensation
• Condensation is the process by which water vapor in the air is changed
into liquid .
OR

• A gas cooling and forming a liquid is called condensation.

Steam is very hot water vapor made
When water boils.

A kettle boiling
A cup of coffee
Cooking food
A hot bath

I see Steam
Steam is very hot and it will burn your
Skin.
The warm mirror does not cloud over.
There is no condensation. Condensation
forms on cold surface. It cools the steam
and condenses it back into a liquid.

Bathroom
Kitchen
Cold drink containers

By covering the pan with the lid.

Water cycle
• The water cycle describes how water evaporates from the surface of
the earth, rises into the atmosphere, cools and condenses into rain or
snow in clouds, and falls again to the surface as precipitation.
• Evaporation
• Condensation
• Precipitation
• Collection
Eventually there would be no water
Anywhere else on the planet

Life would not survive
