INTRODUCTION
• Diesel methanol dual fuel engine (DMDF)
• Two fuels used are diesel and methanol
• The DMDF is realized by injecting low pressure methanol into the intake
manifold, and then the formed methanol-air mixture will be ignited by diesel
around top dead center (TDC).
• DMDF engines have been widely applied due to their high thermal efficiency and
low emission
• In this study, a mathematic algorithm of exergy analysis method of DMDF engine
was established and the influence of operating parameters on exergy efficiency of
DMDF engine was analyzed based on the second law of thermodynamics.

CONCLUSIONS
(1) A mathematic algorithm was built to analyze the exergy balance of both diesel
and DMDF combustion by selecting the cylinder as the control volume.
(2) The exergy balance of DMDF is discriminative from diesel mode, and it varies
significantly with engine load. The heat transfer exergy loss in DMDF is always
lower than that in diesel mode, while its combustion irreversible exergy loss is
relatively higher.
(3) The engine has more heat transfer exergy loss at higher air temperature
condition. The exhaust physical exergy increases with rising air temperature but
decreases with rising MSP.
(4) The exergy efficiency of DMDF keeps increasing with rising temperature
conditions and the intake air temperature has the most important effect.
(5) Pump flow can be reduced, The intake air temperature can be increased,
Methanol injection can be stopped under low load
