Introduction
Full form of SAARC is
“The South Asian Association
for Regional Cooperation”
 It was founded in Dhaka on 8 December 1985 by
Mr. Ziaur Rahman
Its headquarter is in Kathmandu, Nepal.
It is intergovernmental organization and geopolitical
union of states in South Asia.

Why it is formed?
For enhancing regional cooperation
To accelerate growth
To promote economic and social
development.
Objective of SAARC

To contribute to develop mutual trust, understanding


and appreciation of one another’s problem
To promote active collaboration and mutual
assistance in the economic, social, cultural, technical
and scientific fields
To strengthen cooperation with other developing
countries
To strengthen cooperation among themselves in
international forums on matters of common interest
 To cooperate with international and regional
organizations with similar aims and purposes.
Structure of SAARC
 Council
It is at the top represented by the head of
the government of the members of the
country and meets once in every 2 years
for making policy.
 Council of minister
It is to assist the council represented by
foreign minister of the member countries.
Programming committee
It consist of compromising the senior
officials meeting prior to the standing
committee sessions to secretariat budget.
Standing committee
It is comprised by the foreign secretariat of
the member government and entrusted with
overall monitoring and coordination of
progarm
Technical committee
It comprises representative of member
state and formulate programs and prepare
project at their respective fields.
Secretarial
It coordinates, executes and monitors all
the SAARC activities.
