GLOBAL ENERGY CONSUMPTION BY SOURCE
COAL & PETROLEUM
▪ Coal and petroleum are sources of energy that are non-
renewable. They were made in the nature a long time
ago and they will finish after long time use.
▪ Coal is a fossil fuel created from the remains of plants
that lived millions of years ago.
▪ When sea creatures died and got covered with sand
and clay. Under high pressure, these dead organism
convert into petroleum and natural gases.
Uses Of Coal & Petroleum

Uses of coal

• Coal is used as a solid fuel to produce electricity.

• Coal is used as a solid fuel to produce heat after combustion.

Uses of petroleum

• Petroleum may be taken to oil refineries and the hydro carbon chemicals separated by
distillation and treated by other chemical process, to be used for variety of purpose like –
asphalt, diesel, petrol,etc.
Conservation of these resources..

• Coal and petroleum are exhaustible natural resources.

• It takes million of years to convert dead organism into fossil
fuels.
• Burning of fossil fuels leads to air pollution.
• Use of these fuels also cause global warming.
•Impact of water use on flows of rivers and consequential impact on
other land uses.
•Coal fired power plants emit mercury , selenium and arsenic which
are harmful to human health and environment.
Conclusion
We should limit the use of these natural
resources. There is a need to bring cheap
technology for production of energy to meet
our energy demands. Also there is a need to
make use of petroleum more efficiently.
