ENVIROMENTAL

POLLUTION
by Di Franco Alessandro
What is pollution?
Enviromental pollution is the introduction of physical
elements (pollutants) which cause different types of pollution:
 thermal pollution;
 noise pollution;
 electromagnetic pollution;
 air pollution;
 water pollution;
 marine pollution;
 soil pollution;
Air pollution
Atmospheric pollution is
the most dangerous and is
determined by the diffusion
of gas and fine dust into
the atmosphere. The main
sources of pollution are
industrial activity, heating
systems and traffic. 75% of
air pollution is produced by
the use of fossil fuels.
In fact, urban areas are the most
affected, where industries, traffic
and heating are concentrated. This
type of pollution is very harmful to
human health: it causes damage to
the circulatory system and has
carcinogenic effects.
Renewable sources
To combat it, renewable
energy sources are now
preferred; forms of energy
that respect nature, do not
pollute and do not run out.
These last are also the oldest
ones, for example wind energy
has been used since ancient
times to navigate the seas.
Wind energy
One of the most known energy
resources
What is wind energy?
It is an energy resource that uses the power of the wind to
produce electricity. It doesn’t produce emissions harmful
to health and greenhouse gases, and it is inexhaustible. It
works through a machine, the wind turbine.
The wind turbine
The wind turbine allows you
to convert the kinetic
energy of the wind into
mechanical energy. Here
you can see how a wind
turbine is made. The wind
turns the blades, like a
pinwheel, which in turn turn
the generator which
transforms mechanical
energy into electrical
energy with a dynamo.
Wind farms
More blades placed in the same area form a wind farm, which
can be of two types: on-shore (in hilly and mountainous areas)
and off-shore (in coastal areas or on the high seas).

The negative sides

Unfortunately, like all renewable energies,
it has its negative sides. Visual pollution,
noise pollution, but above all the fact that
the wind is a discontinuous source.
