Announcement

◦ An announcement means something that someone says officially, giving information about
something, or when someone announces something.
◦ An announcement should be direct and concise. Your reader or listener will be able to
understand the information quickly and can refer back to it easily.
◦ Present your information in a plain and complete way, so your reader will understand you the
first time (and not ask questions later).
◦ If the news you are announcing is bad, write it in a direct statement. Add a message of
understanding and optimism to your announcement, in a respectful tone.

◦ One of the example of announcement is a school announcement.


◦ A school announcement usually contains:
◦ The topic of the announcement (what)
◦ Day/ date, place/ venue (when, where)
◦ What/ how to do
◦ An emphasis on paying attention to the the information
◦ Closing and thanking

Example.
1. The study tour is cancelled but don’t worry, we will return your money.

3. The hall is being renovated, so the drama class will be held on next week.

Adverbs of time, which tell us when an action happened, as well as for how long
and how often, are usually placed at the end of the sentence.
Example.
1. Please come at 7.00 p.m.
2. The audition will be held on 27 January.

Adverbs of time, which tell us where something happens and are usually place after the
main verb or after the clause that they modify.

1. The audition will be held in the school auditorium.
