UPGRADING EXCERCISES FROM

BULK SAMPLE

Rosalyn w
OBJECTIVE
To Estimate potential metal upgrading for Chrome,
Cobalt and Manganese in Bulk sample for Sorowako
(WB And EB), Bahodopi and Pomalaa deposits utilized
data from QEMCSAN analyses.

This Study will help PTI to make assessment to utilized

potential by product (free mining / HPAL stockpile) or
maximized value other metals before go to HPAL
processing
METHODOLOGY

• From QEMSCAN analyses showed that Spinel/Chromite

(Cr) and Asbolite (Co & Mn) can be liberated from
coarse fractions.
• The Upgrading exercise : removed fines fraction (-
75mm-<0.38mm), with averaging removed almost
>80%weight of sample, only take spinel and asbolite.
• Graphic below are showing comparison between
removed fines grain with Cr Spinel and and removed cr
spinel.

 Cobalt is predominantly in Asbolites and Minor Goethite

 There is a potential to extract cobalt selectively from
coarse fraction by separating Mn oxide

 Goethite and Serpentine may carry significant proportion in
fine fractions.
 In Bahodopi, Serpentine is carried large amount in coarser
grain and dominant in top saprolite layer.

SUMMARY

• Cobalt, manganese and Chromitea beneficiation is good

in LIM, MGL layer and Poor in saprolite layer.
• Sorowako WEST BLOCK have good MGL layer for cobalt
beneficiation
• Sorowako West and Bahodopi Limonite layer Have high
Manganese value beneficiation.
• Need further calculation or study for cobalt, Chromite
and manganese beneficiation in interest area.
• Conduct Experiment study with bulk samples to extract
Asbolite and Spinel from the ores. Refer to successful
project in the others part in world (Philippine, Cameroon
etc)
