 Who is Dr Ambedkar?
– 14th child of a poor untouchable couple
– Faced discrimination all his life
– Studied in the West
– Architect of modern Indian constitution
– First law minister of independent India
– Fought for the rights of the underdog
Dr Ambedkar – Reviver of Buddhism in India
– Amalgamation of Thomas Jefferson (constitution
writer), Abraham Lincoln (emancipator), Frederick
Douglas (journalist), Booker T Washington
(educationalist), WEB Dubois (theorist), Dr King
(human rights activist), and Malcom X
(revolutionary) for his people

 FFEI was/is
– Formerly known as Ambedkar Scholarships
– Started in 2003 with 2 scholarships of Rs.5,000 each
– Inspired by the life and works of Dr Ambedkar
– An umbrella organization
– Secular in its approach
– Registered in US in 2007
– Waiting for 501(c)(3) approval
– Advertised mostly through “word of mouth”

 FFEI believes that


– “Education is panacea” or “Education as panacea”
– right education only can solve human problems (social,
economical)
– progress of everyone is the progress of humanity
– every individual is innately good and helps others
– every individual has a capacity to make a difference
– collective efforts are more effective
– every right thinking person should be responsible for the
marginalized in their midst
– social justice and equal opportunity is good for all

– Only volunteers, no paid staff
– Overhead costs are just 2% of total donations
– We name scholarships as desired by donors

160 million in number

– All those who wish to improve their lives
(with special emphasis on Dalits and other
marginalized sections)

 Why Dalits preferred?


– Dalits are most discriminated and marginalized
among all sections of India. Statistics proves it.
– Casteism still very much alive and kicking. Dalits
are its worst victims
– Affirmative action (or Reservations) do not reach
the most needy for a variety of reasons
– Dalits lack encouragement and motivation
– FFEI lacks enough resources (financial and human)
to support all
