1. Corruption in the Philippines

- In a survey of 10 Asia-Pacific nation, the Philippine
civil service was voted most corrupt.

2. Poverty
- Poverty and inequality in the Philippines remains a
challenge.
 Causes of Poverty

- low to moderate economic growth for

the past 40 years;
- failure to fully develop the agriculture
sector;
- high levels of population growth;
- weakness in employment generation and
the quality of jobs generated

- Every year, more than one
million people is added to the
existing population. Because
the higher the number of birth
and lower percentage of
deaths, population may
“explode” and this causes a lot
of problems, issues, and
concerns.
- It has been estimated that by
the year 2018, the Philippines
population is 106,512,374.
3. Overpopulation
Causes of overpopulation in the
Philippines
a. False beliefs and values by many Filipinos,
especially among old folks. Children are
regarded as “gifts of God”. This is one of the
teachings of the catholic church.
b. Lack of family planning in many families
especially in rural areas.
c. Lack of knowledge in the use of contraceptive
devices.
d. Teenage pregnancy is on the rise

7 - Prostitution in the Philippines is illegal, although
somewhat tolerated, with law enforcement being rare with
regards to sex workers. Penalties range up to life
imprisonment for those involved in trafficking, which is
covered by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003.
