Environment

Social Responsibility to the Community and the

Environment. The Social responsibilities of corporate

ENVIRONMENT ETHICS

Environmental ethics is a branch of ethics

that studies the relation of human beings and
the environment and how ethics play a role
in this. Environmental ethics believe that
humans are a part of society as well as other
living creatures, which includes plants and
animals.

4
Anthropocentrism

Anthropocentrism in ethics is found in two main

forms: consequential ethics and deontological
ethics. Basic to both is the perception of a
discontinuity between humans and the rest of
nature. Humans are considered superior to
animals for various reasons, including their
ability to think and speak, plan, organize
projects, and so on.

5
Ecocentric ethicists
In ethical terms: ecocentrism
expands the moral community
(and ethics) from being just
about ourselves. It means we are
not concerned only with
humanity; we extend respect
and care to all life, and indeed
to terrestrial and aquatic
ecosystems themselves.

6
Do the environmental laws reflect moral concerns?

Moral issues do play an important

role but by no means decisive, part
in the creation and formulation of
the law. The concept of sustainable
development is an acceptable moral
basis for environmental protection
and regulation for many people.
Our ethics can only be human
centered. The concept of nature’s
rights is no more than a fiction.

7
What are the
current issues in environmental ethics?

Consumption of natural resources has many reasons as

to why we are using all of our natural resources, such as
population growth and demanding consumers. “If we fail
to bring population growth and overconsumption under
control, then we will inhabit a planet where life becomes
increasingly untenable.”

8
DEFORESTATION

Deforestation is a particular concern in

tropical rain forests because these forests
are home to much of the world’s
biodiversity. For example, in the Amazon
around 17% of the forest has been lost in
the last 50 years, mostly due to forest
conversion for cattle ranching.

9
ENVVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

Environmental pollution is one of the greatest problems

that human society is facing today. Air, water, and soil
form the three basic areas of environmental
pollution. What is Environmental Pollution? When there
is an undesirable change in the surrounding that has
harmful effects on plants and animals, it leads
to environmental pollution.

10
HARM TO ANIMALS

Most people accept an account of the

proper moral status of animals according
to which the interests of animals count
directly in the assessment of actions that
affect them, but do not count for as much
as the interests of human beings.

11
Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is the responsibility to

conserve natural resources and protect global ecosystems
to support health and wellbeing, now and in the future.
Because so many decisions that impact the environment
are not felt immediately, a key element of environmental
sustainability is its forward-looking nature.

12
The Inherent Value of Non-human Entities

Intrinsic value is a property of Instrumental values deal

anything that is valuable on its with views on acceptable
own. Intrinsic value is in contrast
modes of conductor means of
to instrumental value (also
achieving the terminal
known as extrinsic value), which
is a property of anything that values. These include
derives its value from a relation being honest, sincere, ethical,
to another intrinsically valuable and being ambitious. These
thing. values are more focused on
personality traits and
character.
