Multicultural Lesson Objective
1. Lesson Objectives:

● Student/Grade Level: Reading and First Grade


● 2 Observable Objective: Students will be able to participate in a discussion with their partners and describe the characters from
the story. Students will also be able to evaluate characters, settings, and major events using key details.

2. Multicultural Goal: Develop an educational environment that promotes respect for differences.

● Students will be able to develop a understanding of the educational environment and show respect for the differences in their
peers.

Mathieu

3. My culture and traditions worksheet
4. Quick quiz
Instruction-learning Process
Do-First: Explain why we are reading the book and let them know why it is important to have a
diverse classroom.
Mini-Lesson: Students will listen to the teacher read them the book We’re Different, We’re the same
by Bobbi James Kates and illustrated by Joe Mathieu
Guided Practice: After the reading the students will get together with a peer and discuss the book.
They will discuss what they have in common with their partner and what they have different.
Independent practice: The students will be working on a worksheet about their own culture. The
students will be able to tell the class about their favorite traditions and interesting facts about
themselves.
Exit slip: The students will take a quick quiz about their book and what they learned about their
peer.
