Service Design Concept
Objectives
The objectives of this module are:
1.Make business model canvas to identify and design
service.
2.Describe a service using the five dimensions of the
service package.

Business Model
Canvas
• Business Model Canvas is a shared language for
describing, visualizing, assessing, and changing business
models.
• Business Model Canvas concept allows us to describe and
manipulate business model easily to then create a new
alternative strategies.
• Business model can be described very well through 9 basic
building blocks that show a way of thinking about how a
company earns money.

The Customer Segments building block defines the
different groups of people or organizations an
enterprise aims to reach and serve

Value Propositions (VP)
The Value Propositions building block describes the
bundle of product services that create value of a
specific Customer Segments
Channels (CH)
The Channels building block describes how a
company communicates with and reaches its
Customer Segments to deliver a Value
Proposition
Customer Relationships (CR)
The Customer Relationships building block
describes the types of relationship a company
establishes with specific customer segments

The Revenue Streams building block represents
the cash a company generates from each
Customer Segments
Key Resources (KR)
The key Resources building block describes the most
important assets required to make a business model
work

Key Activities (KA)
The Key Activities building block describes the most
important things a company must do to make its
business model work
Key Partnerships (KP)
The Key Partnerships building block describes the
network of suppliers and partners that make the
business model work
Cost Structure (C$)
The Cost Structure describes all cost incurred to
operate a business model

Service Package
• Service package is defined as a bundle of goods
and services with information that is provided in
some environment.
• This bundle consists of five features: Supporting
facility, Facilitating goods, Information, Explicit
services, Implicit services.

5 Features of Service
Package
• Supporting Facility
The physical resources that must be in place before a service can be
offered. Examples are a golf course, a ski lift, a hospital, and an
airplane.
• Facilitating Goods
The material purchased or consumed by the buyer, or the items
provided by the customer. Examples are golf clubs, skis, food
items, replacement auto parts, and medical supplies.
• Information
Data that is available from the customer or provider to enable
efficient and customized service. Examples include electronic
patient medical records, airline Web site showing seats available
on a flight, and Google map link on a hotel Web site.

Package (cont.)
• Explicit Services
The benefits that are readily observable by the senses and that
consist of the essential or intrinsic features of the services.
Examples are the absence of pain after a tooth is repaired, a
smooth-running automobile after a tune up, and the response
time of a fire department.
•Implicit Services
Psychological benefits that the customer may sense only
vaguely, or the extrinsic features of the service. Examples are
the status of a degree from an Ivy League school, the privacy
of a loan office, and worry-free auto repair.
