HYDRAULIC COMPONENTS
Component name Function Symbol
• Changes mechanical power to high
Pump pressure hydraulic fluid power

• A container to store hydraulic fluid

Tank/Reservoir • To cooling hydraulic fluid

• To restrain foreign particle such as

Filter dust or steel splinters from
entering into hydraulic system

One way valve/Check valve • To avoid back flow and protect the
pump from sudden over pressure

• To limit and control the work

Release valve/Relief valve pressure
• To protect the system from over
pressure that may damage the
main component

ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT

 Directional control valve with twin selenoids

is actuated by a limiter switch.
 Solenoid A is energized to obtain operation 1.
 At the end of operation (1) the solenoid (C) is
energized by the limiter switch 2 to obtain
operation (2).
 Then solenoid (b) is energized by limiter
switch 3 to obtain operation (3).
 Solenoid (d) is energized by limiter switch 1
to obtain operation (4).
BASIC HYDRAULIC SYSTEM CIRCUIT
OPENED CYNOSURE SYSTEM

Advantages Disadvantages
• Generally less expensive. • Could create heat in the system if working
pressure exceeds the relief valve setting
• Better for lower pressure applications
when using fixed displacement pumps.
(below 3000 PSI).
• Reservoir size has to be larger for adequate
• Simple to maintain and easier to diagnose
cooling of the fluid.
problems if they occur

CLOSED CYNOSURE SYSTEM

Advantages Disadvantages
• Systems can run at higher pressures with less • More expensive components are used.
fluid flow so smaller hydraulic lines can be used.
• May require high-pressure filtration.
• Direction can be reversed without the use of
valves. • More difficult to diagnose and repair.

• More control options are available.

METER IN
○ Meter-in is a method a flow control
valve is placed in a hydraulic circuit -
there is a restriction in the amount of
fluid flowing to the actuator
○ The flow control valve enables
restriction in the fluid flow to the
cylinder and slowing down its extension.
○ In the event of the flow direction being
reversed, the check valve ensures that
the return flow bypasses the flow
control valve.
○ The meter-in operation is quite accurate
with a  positive load
METER OUT

○ In direction will cause the fluid leaving

the actuator to be metered
○ The cylinder here is prevented from
overrunning and consequent cavitating.
○ Can provide accurate control for
positive and negative loads
METERING OFF/BLEED OFF

○ a valve directs flow back to the tank

when actuated.
○ The valve of the bleed-off circuit can be
located anywhere along the main line.
○ This circuit is more efficient than meter
in or meter out, as pump output is only
high enough to overcome resistance
