PREVIEWING
AND
PREDICTING

PREPARED BY CMDU
PREVIEWING

 Previewing means to look at a text quickly before you read it. Looking at the pictures, titles, subtitles, graphics and words
in bold print can give you clues on what the text is about. This helps you understand the text before you read it.
WHEN YOU PREVIEW, ASK THESE QUESTIONS:

 What type of reading is it?

 Who wrote it and who is it written for?

 What is it about?

 How long is it?

 Is it difficult or easy to read?

 Is it interesting or useful to you?

 What will come next in the reading?

PREDICTING

 Predicting is making a guess about what you are going to read. By looking at the pictures, titles, subtitles, and graphs,
you can make a prediction of what the text will be about before you read it. Then while you are reading, you can continue
to make guesses about what will come next in the passage.
 For example, if you saw the picture in the title slide before reading a text, you could understand that it was about fruit
and specifically tangerines.
