PHYSICAL-GEOGRAPHICAL FRAMEWORK
It is limited: north of the Dobrogea massif (M Dobrogea is a historical and geographical territory that is part of
the territory of Romania and Bulgaria, between the Danube and the Black Sea. In the past, it was known as Dacia
Pontica, or Scythia Minor. the territory of today's Romania, Dobrogea contains two counties, Tulcea and Constanta,
and in Bulgaria, Dobrich and Silistra.
It is limited: to the north by the Dobrogea massif (Măcinului Mountains - short, blunt mountains), surrounded by wide
undulating plateaus (Tulcei Plateau, Babadag Plateau, Casimcei Plateau) interrupted by depressions, to the northeast
by the Danube Delta, to the east by the Black Sea. and to the south of a tabular plateau, with little fragmentation, with
the character of an erosion plain.
Ca The long paleogeographic evolution and the differentiated action of the underground modeling factors have led to
the formation of relief units characterized by the plateau structure with low altitude; in most of the territory the values
under 200 m. predominate, the altitudinal differences between the component parts being reduced.
The main natural units are:
the plateau - which covers almost the entire territory consists of Mesozoic limestones placed on marls and
tertiary limestones covered with a mantle of loess (Pod. Casimcei, Dobrogei de Sud, Medgidiei, Cobadin, Negru
Voda);
the plain - from a geographical point of view, high, slightly undulating, with the appearance of bridges on which
the field crops are practiced - especially the cereal ones, is highlighted in the central area.
The southern part - corresponding to the Plateau of the Coast - is delimited to the west by the altitudes between
85-100 m, where the passage is made to the plateau of South Dobrogea (Medgidia and Topraisar). The width of this
sector is between 10 and 12 km.
HISTORY
As from the middle of the seventh century BC. the Ionian Greeks from the coast of Asia Minor
founded a series of colonies on the sea coast of present-day Constanta County, including Histria and Tomis,
and the Dorian Greeks - Callatis (Mangalia). Through these colonies, through the trade that took place, the
ancient Greeks established links with the localized Getae, leaving many archaeological and historical
information about the population of the area, about their occupations, customs and way of life.

Inanité by the conquest of Dacia by the Romans, Dobrogea - then Schythia Minor - came under
Roman rule (1st century BC). As a result, Dobrogea can be considered as the first Roman province among
all the later Romanian provinces. The geographical location of the interference of the roads that connected
western Europe with the Byzantine world in Eastern Europe made Dobrogea bear the consequences of the
dispute between migrants at the beginning of the Middle Ages.

At the end of the 14th century, Dobrogea came under the rule of the Ottoman Empire for almost five
centuries, the painful effects of this secular rule being mainly of an economic and national nature.
Dobrogea, the theater of struggle between the tsarist and Ottoman armies, returned to its motherland after
the war of 1877-1878, which marked the conquest of Romania's state independence.
