Reflection
What am I making?
I am producing a video about Type 1 Diabetes. Covering all aspects of it such as what it actually is, symptoms, and how it effects those with it. I
plan to include my own personal story to show what it is like to actually live with the autoimmune disease.
I am making this because it is a very personal subject to me. When I was diagnosed, I was told about what it was and had been given some
leaflets that told me this information to along with some extra to give to friends. Looking back on it now, I would have loved a video that showed
all of this - that told me exactly what it was as well as what people have personally gone through so I would then feel less alone in how I was
emotionally and physically feeling in the coming weeks post diagnosis. Luckily, my parents knew all about it due to my Dad having it too, but if
they had no idea what it was then I know this type of video would be beneficial to teaching them as well. Overall, I just never felt like I had
enough information like this to support me at the time and would like to create a piece that would achieve this.
Who is it for?
My main target audience is teenagers with the disease as I am a teenager myself so my personal experience will be most beneficial to that age
group. The video as a whole will also be beneficial to the families of those with diabetes as it will inform them on what it is too.
It is possible that it could be used within the York NHS services or nationally with Diabetes UK. If this cannot happen, then I
would like to share it on various diabetes Facebook groups via YouTube.
Equipment
To film my footage I plan on using the Canon
C100 camera and to assist the camera I will
use a tripod and a boom pole to hold the
microphone out. I may also use an iPhone to
film smaller bits of footage such as filming
around the hospital, if I do this I will use either
a smaller tripod or a gimble.
All Production Resources
To film the video footage I will be using the c100 camera and possibly my iPhone. I would attach the
camera to a tripod so I do not have to hold the camera myself and so I can achieve the stable footage I
want. If my iPhone is used, I will use a small tripod or gimble to again achieve the stable footage the I
need. To put together and edit my video I will be using the adobe premiere pro software as it is super
easy to use and I have used it in the past, so I know how it works already. I will also be using the adobe
photoshop software and possibly the adobe illustrator software to great graphic pieces that will feature in
the video.

Video Timeline Ideas 1
For the layout of the documentary, I want to have a clear introduction, one half based around the
medical side, the other half around the personal side, and a strong ending before the credits. This is
because each documentary I watched for my research had a clear beginning which set out the
meanings/ reasons for the production and they all had a clear, easy to follow structure.
Journey to the hospital with voice Interviews with the Doctor/ Nurse My person experience, interviews My last answer in the interview
over narration introducing the film - introduction clips of each with the family fades into black and then credits
- cut between multiple clips interviewee so viewer knows who - introduction clips of each roll.
with simple jump cuts they are then move onto questions interviewee so viewer knows who - ends the video on a nice and
- narration introduces person and - cutaway clips and information they are then move onto questions strong point that will hopefully be

Colour Scheme
For the in-video text and the graphics, I will be using different shades of blue and
possibly white. I am using these colours as blue is the signature colour for Type 1
Diabetes and I want to include this where I can, and I feel through the texts and
graphics is an appropriate option.
For the general look of the video, especially the interviews, I want them to have a
warm tone to them as this will create some calming feelings. Although medical
documentaries are usually cold in colour, I wanted to have my own take on it and
didn’t want the documentary to feel too formal and serious so I believe using
warmer tones will help give a more relaxed and light hearted overall feeling.
Audio
For the introduction and credits I would like to use some
background music to help make the footage flow better when it is
cut by cutting to the beats in the music as well as using it to set a
general tone for the whole documentary. I aim to have a more
light hearted feel to video as it is aimed at the recently diagnosed
and I do not want to make them any more uneasy or scared then
they probably already are.
ICON CORESPONDING TEXT In the video, this would appear on a black background as a
blank page with only the title OR with the first icon and text
visible. Each section would fade onto the screen when it is being
said in the video footage. My plan is to have the audio running
ICON CORESPONDING TEXT over the graphic piece and to do this I will just unlink the video
and audio and remove the video.
Graphics Plan 2
This style of graphic is also based around one of the pieces I saw in
TITLE my research as I like the style and find it to be effective. I also mixed
in a bit of the style of my other piece that I looked at.
To incorporate the main T1D colour of blue into the design I made
ICON
CORESPONDING TEXT
the background a light blue colour. I also decided to make my title
text and information text a dark blue colour which contrasts with the
background and white boxes. I have also placed the text in center of
each box as this is what looks the most professional and clean. I
ICON
CORESPONDING TEXT decided to include white boxes behind my text and icons as I
noticed in my research this made the text stand out a lot more. I
included a faint dark blue outline around the white boxes to
minimalise the clash between the light blue in the background and
the white. I decided to place the icons in the white boxes as I
ICON
CORESPONDING TEXT thought this made the visual side of the piece look better.
