Project proposal title and date:

The Truth on Type 1 Diabetes

Main area of activity:

For this project I will be working in the video production sector to create an informational medical
documentary style video.

Rationale:

During my first year of college, I got to work on a few different video projects such as two music videos
and a couple of mini video projects at the end of the year. I was also able to produce a video in my
second year for our group-based audience project which was a travel guide. Each of these projects
allowed me to improve my existing video production skills while also gaining new ones such as how to
create interesting transitions, creating voice overs, and editing techniques that I didn’t know existed e.g.,
L and J cuts. I also got to improved and gain more knowledge on how to successfully plan a video
production. For this project I am going to apply the appropriate skills and hopefully conduct them to the
best of my ability to show my improvement throughout the two years on this course and using my
knowledge from planning in the past to be thorough with my planning on this project making sure I know
exactly what I'm doing down to the minor details and that I am prepared for anything that could possibly
go wrong.

Project Concept:

For this project I will be creating an informational video about the chronic illness Type 1 Diabetes. As it
is an informational video and about a serious illness, the video will include only the truth about Type 1
Diabetes is, its causes, its symptoms, its effects (both physically and mentally) and its dangers. I plan to
aim the video will at teenagers who are newly diagnosed which is why I believe including my own
personal experiences or someone else's in this age range will be beneficial as it can be a reminder that
they are not alone in this scary situation however the video would also be perfect for anyone to watch
as it will be educational on the subject. The overall tone will be quite serious as it is a serious topic
however, I do plan on trying to make it a bit more positive by mentioning fun perks that come with it,
talking about the support you get etc.

I will be using my own knowledge of the subject along with using trusted Type 1 Diabetes websites such
as Diabetes UK and JDRF and documentaries to research my facts and plan to try and speak to
professionals such as doctors and nurses that specialise in the disease. I may also make some
graphics which I would use to visually show the facts that are being spoken about as visual graphic
elements are liked by my target age range. I will need to research different medical graphic pieces to
see the style and techniques they use to aid me in the production of my own. The video will also be
beneficial to the family of the viewer and the general public if it came to reach that point as it will
educate any viewer on what the disease is and the difficulties that come with it.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:

I will be doing an ongoing evaluation for my entire project, updating it as much as possible to review my
progress and assess any need for improvement as I make my way through each section of the project. I
will also complete a final self-evaluation once my project is finished and analyse every part of my work
while looking back at my proposal and initial ideas and plans to see how my project developed and how
I achieved my goals.

This process will aid me in the future as the constant reviewing allows me to work towards producing a
project to the best of my ability and I am not only doing project improvement it is also self-improvement
as I learn from each scenario.
