The Human Skeletal and

Muscular System
Objectives:
•Describe the purpose and function of
the two systems in the human body.
•Explain a variety of strategies for
keeping the systems as healthy as
possible.
The Human
Skeletal System
The Human Skeletal System
• The skeletal system
includes all of the bones
and joints in the body. Each
bone is a complex living
organ that is made up of
many cells, protein fibers,
and minerals. The human
skeleton contains a
whopping 206 bones.
WHAT ARE THE MAJOR
FUNCTIONS OF HUMAN
SKELETAL SYSTEM?
Major Functions of Skeletal System:
• It supports structure for the human body.
• Facilitates movement: Your skeleton supports your body
weight to help you stand and move.
• Protects internal organs: Your skull shields your brain,
your ribs protect your heart and lungs, and your
backbone protects your spine.
• Store minerals: Bones hold your body’s supply of minerals
like calcium and Vitamin D.
The skeleton permits movement of the
body as a whole and its separate parts. The
bones perform as levers and also form joints
that let muscles to pull on them and produce
movement.
WHAT CAN BE DONE TO
HELP SKELETAL SYSTEM
WORK AS EFFECTIVELY
AS POSSIBLE?
To keep your skeletal system healthy,
you should:
•Get plenty of vitamin D and calcium in
your diet to keep bones strong.
•Drink plenty of water to help tissues
healthy.
•Exercise regularly to strengthen bones
and joints.
The Human
Muscular System
The Human Muscular System
• A human body contains more
than 600 muscles that work
together to enable the full
functionIng of the body.
Muscles are made up of
special cells called muscles
fibers. The muscular system is
an organ system consisting of
skeletal, smooth and cardiac
muscles.
• Skeletal muscles are attached to the bone and
help you with everyday activities ranging from
sitting and standing to walking, typing, doing
housework.
• Smooth muscles are the involuntary muscles in
your gut, blood vessels, and else where that
work without you consciously thinking about
making them move.
• Cardiac muscles are in your heart.
WHAT ARE THE MAJOR
FUNCTIONS OF
MUSCULAR SYSTEM?
Major Functions of Muscular System:

• Responsible for the movement of the body:

walking, talking, sitting, standing, and
eating.
• It also produce more refined movements,
such as facial expressions, eye movements
and respiration.
• Circulate blood.
Muscle pull on the joints, letting us to move.
They also help the body do such things as
grinding food and then moving it through the
digestive system. Skeletal muscle is attached by
cord-ike tendons to bone, such as in the legs,
arms, and face.
WHAT CAN BE DONE TO HELP
MUSCULAR SYSTEM WORK AS
EFFECTIVELY AS POSSIBLE?
Ways to keep muscular system healthy:
• Get plenty of exercise
Like walking, jogging, lifting weights, jumping and dancing.
These are all good ways to exercise your muscles.
• Hydrate
Staying hydrated is important for overall health. It is also
necessary for building muscles.
• Eating Well
Your diet will greatly impact the health of your muscles as the
foods you eat will work to strengthen and repair existing muscles.
HOW DO THESE SYSTEMS
CARRY OUT ITS TASKS?
• In the musculoskeletal system,
the muscular and skeletal
systems function together to
upkeep and move the body. The
muscles of the muscular system
attach to these bones, pulling
on them to permit movement
of the body.
