ratio
Human beings need to compare measurements and quantities. These quantities
can be compared with ratios between them.

These type of mathematical relationship, expressed by the quotient between two

numbers, are called a ratio. Ratio is defined as the division between two
numbers a and b

= ratio

Fundamental properties of ratio

In a series of equal ratios, the sum of the antecedents divided by the sum of the
consecuent is equal to any of the ratios of series. Given the series of ratios as in
the example.
Proportions
An equality between two ratio

A:B::C:D

Two ratios make a proportions only if the extreme product is the equal to the means
product.
One end is the product of the mass divided by the known endpoint

A means equals the product of its ends divided by the known means

The sum of the antecedent divided by the sum of consequent is equal to the
constant of proportionality.

Direct proportions.

Two magnitudes are directly proportional if the ratio

between the value of the one of them and the respective
value of the other is equal to a constant K that
constant is called a constant of proportionality.
inverse proportions.

Two quantities are inversely proportional when the

product of each value of a magnitude by the respective
value of the other is equal to a constant. This constant
is called the inverse proportionality constant.
