Providing Warmth and
Structure Together
How do you provide Warmth and Structure in this
situation?

Your Grade 2 learner comes from a very poor family. Her parents are supportive
but with low educational attainment, and as such cannot support her in terms of
her academic needs. You want to instill in her good study habits and develop
independent learning.
1. Giving my all my learners a certificate/award at the end of
the year for a job well done is Warmth.
2. “Sermon” is a form of Structure.
3. My kindergarten learner has difficulty developing hand-
washing and bathing habits because he lives in a place where
water is not easily accessible. This is a form of Warmth.
4. My 10-year-old male learner gets teased often because of his
effeminate ways. I talk to him calmly and encourage him to act
more tough. This is a form of Warmth.
5. My 16-year-old female learner’s performance in class
suddenly deteriorated after she broke up with her boyfriend. I
calmly talked to and told her to shape up. This is a form of
Structure.
