The trigonometric ratios are special
measurements of a right triangle. The
two sides of a right triangle which form
the right angle are called the legs, and
the third side, opposite the right angle is
called the hypotenuse.
Bicol police remembers bravery, heroism of SAF 44

LEGAZPI CITY – The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO 5) on Tuesday remembered
the heroism of the 44 Special Action Forces (SAF) personnel who were killed in an anti-
terrorist operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao seven years ago, saying their death was
a strong manifestation that police officers are always ready to carry out their mission
despite the odds and difficulties along the way.
Lt. Gen. Ferdinand Divina, chief of the Area Police Command-Southern Luzon, who was
the guest speaker during the PRO5's observance of the National Day of Remembrance at
Camp Simeon Ola here, delivered the message of Philippine National Police Chief, Gen.
Dionardo Carlos.
He said putting one's life at risk in order to protect freedom is an act of valor since it is
done without expecting any payback.

"Today, we pause to remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this nation
especially the 44 fallen brave SAF commandos. This commemoration is the day where
we ought to reflect for their unselfish deeds for our country which symbolizes the heart of
a true warrior," Divina said.
He also said the fallen lawmen had to sacrifice their lives just so the people could live in
freedom in the safety of their homes.
"The tragic loss of SAF 44 is a lesson learned we must not forget. Their lives are
irreplaceable. Like generations of warrior heroes before them, our fallen SAF 44 gave
everything they had, not for glory, nor for any gratitude, but for something greater than
themselves," he added.
Addressing the families of SAF 44, Divina expressed deep sorrow and said the PNP will
continuously pray for the souls of their kin and be thankful for their noble deeds.

"May the memories of the Gallant 44 serve as constant inspiration to strengthen our faith
in God and continue our sworn duty to protect the public from lawless elements, criminal
acts, terrorism, and anti-illegal drugs that ruin the future of our children," Divina said.
Maj. Bon Billy Timuat, PRO5 assistant chief for operations division, and classmate of
three of the slain SAF troops reminisced the old times with them.
"It was seven years ago when you made the ultimate sacrifice, but you are true heroes that
will never be forgotten. Special deeds of men like you will not just fade away," Timuat
said as he remembered Senior Inspectors Max Jim Tria, Sr., Getnad Tabdi and John Garry
Erana, his classmates in the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Kaisang-Bisig
Class of 2009.
The PRO5 held a wreath-laying ceremony and Holy Mass and rendered a 21-gun salute
for the SAF heroes. (PNA)

“Rifleman’s Rule”
Rifleman's rule is a "rule of thumb" that allows a rifleman to accurately
fire a rifle that has been calibrated for horizontal targets at uphill or
downhill targets. The rule provides an equivalent horizontal range
setting for engaging a target at a known elevated distance from the rifle
(called the slant range). There is a device that is mounted on the rifle
called a sight. While there are many forms of rifle sight, they all permit
the rifleman to set the angle between the bore of the rifle and the line
of sight (LOS) to the target. Using the rifleman’s rule it will allow
military men to accurately hit the target when aiming to an elevated
target.

ANGLE OF ELEVATION
AND
ANGLE OF DEPRESSION
OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, the student should be

able to:
a. Identify angle of elevation and
angle of depression;
b. Illustrate angle of elevation and
angle of depression.
ELEVATION

 Aeronautics - the angular altitude of any object above

the horizon
 Geography - height above sea level; altitude
 Military - angular distance of the muzzle of a gun above
the horizontal
 Architecture - the front, back, or side of a building, or a
drawing of one of these
 English - the height of something above a given or
implied place, esp above sea level
DEPRESSION

 Psychiatry - a condition characterized by extreme gloom, feelings of inadequacy,

and inability to concentrate
 Pathology - an abnormal lowering of the rate of any physiological activity or
function, such as respiration
 Economics - an economic condition characterized by substantial and protracted
unemployment, low output and investment, etc; slump
 Meteorology - an area of low atmospheric pressure
 Surveying - the angle between the line from an observer or instrument to an object
below either of them and a horizontal line
DEFINITION OF TERMS:

 Line of sight is an imaginary line that connects the eye of

an observer to the object being observed.

 Horizontal line is the imaginary line assumed for the
horizontal eye level of the observer.
 Angle of elevation is the angle form the horizontal to the
line of sight of the observer to the object above.
 Angle of depression is the angle from the horizontal to the
line of sight of the observer to the object below.
HOW TO NAME AN ANGLE?
HOW TO NAME A SEGMENT?

You will name a line segment using the letters for

each of the end points and a line over the top of the
letters.
ANGLE OF ELEVATION
ANGLE OF DEPRESSION
ACTIVITY: IDENTIFY ME
In the following figures, identify the segment that represents the line of sight, and
identify the angles (if any) that represent the angle of elevation or angle of depression.
ANSWER ON YOUR MATH JOURNAL
DEADLINE: FRIDAY (June 10, 2022)

“Success is not how high you have climbed, but how

you make a positive difference to the world.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
In your own opinion, what are the positive
differences that you have made within yourself that
make you feel that you are successful?
Activity 1: Draw My Problem!

Objective:
To develop your skills in arts in illustrating the pictures presented by the information given from the word
problems with accuracy.
Materials:
Manila paper, ruler, protractor, and drawing materials
Directions:
1. Look for a partner
2. Draw the pictures presented by the information in the problem given. (These problems don’t ask for
an answer.)
3. Assume that buildings, ladders, etc. are all on level ground.
4. Clear, neat, and accurate illustrations are necessary.
5. Refer to the rubrics for scoring.
Problems:
1. The angle of elevation of the top of the flagpole from a student 30 meters away from the flagpole is 65°.
2. The angle of depression of a student from a point on the 2nd floor of a high school building 30.5 meters
above the ground is 3°.
QUESTIONS:

1. How did you find the activity?

2. Did you encounter any difficulty in illustrating the problems?
3. What mathematical concepts did you apply to have an accurate illustration?
4. Based on the drawings you have, how will you define angle of elevation and angle
of depression using your own words?
