Time & Dates Quarter Third

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of circles and
coordinate geometry.
B. Performance Standards The learner is able to formulate and find solutions to challenging situations
involving circles and other related terms in different disciplines through
appropriate and accurate representations.
C. Learning Competencies Knowledge: Find the measure of the angle formed by tangents and
/ Objectives. secants that intersect circles.
Write the LC code for each Skills: Apply the theorem in finding the measure of the angle
formed by tangents and secants that intersect circle.
Attitude: Show interest in finding the measures of the angle formed by
tangents and secants that intersect circle.
Values: Display oneness in answering the prepared activities.

*Provide a short review activity on some parts of a circle.
Let some students to define and label the parts of the circle A.

4. _______

1. ________ 5. _______
2. ________ A
3. ________

1. Tangent (of a circle): A line that touches a circle in exactly one

point.
2. Secant (of a circle): A line that intersects a circle at exactly two
points.
3. Diameter: A chord that contains the center of the circle.
4. Chord (of a circle): A line segment whose endpoints are on a circle.
5. Arc (of a circle): Is a portion of the circumference of a circle.

Activity/Strategy (10 ACTIVITY: Draw Me!

minutes).
*Divide the class into four groups.
* Each group will be given the following task:
Group 1: Construct circle O with two secant lines that intersect at
point E outside the circle.
Group 2: Construct a circle O with two tangent lines that intersect
at point F outside the circle.
Group 3: Construct a circle O with a secant and tangent lines that
intersect at point G outside the circle.
Group 4:
*Let them paste their works on the board.

Motive Questions:
1. What have you observe from the figures drawn?
(There are angles formed when secants and tangents intersect)
2. How are we going to find the measure of the angles formed?
(Answers may vary)

Abstraction (____ Theorems on Angles Formed by Tangents and Secants
minutes).
1. If two secants intersect in the exterior of a circle, then the measure
of the angle formed is one-half the positive difference of the measures
of the intercepted arcs.
2. If a secant and a tangent intersect in the exterior of a circle, then the
measure of the angle formed is one-half the positive difference of the
measures of the intercepted arcs.
3. If two tangents intersect in the exterior of a circle, then the measure
of the angle formed is one-half the positive difference of the measures
of the intercepted arcs.
