MARTIN HEIDEGGER:

BEING-IN-THE-WORLD
•September 1889- May 1976
•German philosopher
•“Father of Existential Phenomenology”
Man as “DASEIN” a German word which literally
means being there. This tells us that our very being is
to be there, to be in the word-being-in the-world. “To
be in the world” means that our experiences re always
situated in our world.
Being in the world also means to be with other people.
Just like the case of things, the moment we are born,
we already connected with people our parents
primarily. Our being is situated in the world inevitably
links us to people. And these links are not simple
categories that are transformative.
Finally, being-in-the-world means that we are not just
situated in th place and immersed in a particular
culture, language, and social structures. No one can
himself from culture, language , and social structures.
We are born in a particular era that allows us to see the
world within the lens of that era.
We often hear older people start their
statement with “Noong panahon….” to
indicate the difference in their temporal
situation that made them look at the
world in a certain way.
Q: How we should better lead our lives?

A: We should spend more time in the grave

yards.
