TOPIC
NUCLEAR POLLUTION
TOPICS TO BE DISCUSSED

•Nuclear pollution
•Causes of Nuclear Pollution
•Effects on plants
•Effects on Humans
•Control and Measures
•Disposal of Nuclear Waste.
WHAT IS NUCLEAR POLLUTION?

• Nuclear Pollution is carried out by nuclear explosion Which are carried out for nuclear
tests.
• One of the most important and dangerous type of pollution is Nuclear Pollution
• Produced by generation of energy through nuclear fission or nuclear fusion .
HOW DOES IT ENTERS INTO ATMOSPHERE

• Due to explosion, about 15 to 20% of radioactive particles entered into Stratosphere .

• Once they entered into the air ,they continue to fall off onto earth after every six months
to several years.
• Almost 5% of Radioactive material entered into Stratosphere, which is the lowest layer of
Atmosphere.
CAUSES OF NUCLEAR POLLUTION

Nuclear power plants use uranium as fuel. The process of

mining uranium releases high amounts of carbon dioxide into the
environment. Carbon dioxide is also released into the
environment when new nuclear power plants are built. Finally,
the transport of radioactive waste also causes carbon dioxide
emissions.

NUCLEAR EXPERIMENT
NUCLEAR ACCIDENTS

• Use of nuclear weapons also pollutes the Earth’s Environment.

EFFECTS ON PLANTS

• Green Plants are extremely sensitive to gamma rays.

• Plants response varies according to age, plants specie,
Chromosomes volume ,growth stage and level of radiation.
EFFECTS ON HUMANS

• It create skin diseases in humans.

• Damages to reproductive organs.
• Causes of abnormality in bone marrows.
• Destroy ratina of eyes.
• Shortening the life span of human beings.
CONTROL AND MEASURES

• Proper maintenance of nuclear power plants.

• Preventive nuclear experiments.
• Safe transportation of nuclear materials.
• Ban on nuclear weapons
• Proper storage
• Minimize use of nuclear elements.
DISPOSAL OF NUCLEAR WASTE

• The most currently-used method for nuclear waste disposal is storage, either using steel
cylinders as radioactive shield or using deep and stable geologic formations. However,
the disposal of nuclear waste by storage still has many concern, since the
leakage of the nuclear waste may cause huge environmental disaster.
