About Environment
and Society
In this chapter, we are going to discuss
about analytical exposition about actual
issue related to environment.

Analytical Exposition

Analytical exposition is one type of text that will


explain in detail the author’s opinion on a
phenomenon or issue that occurs without
intending to influence the reader to agree or do
something. This type of text has the aim of
convincing or persuading the reader that the topic
presented is a very important topic to discuss.
1. Social Function of Analytical
Exposition
a. To persuade the reader that the idea is important matter.
b. To analyze a topic and to persuade that the thesisi/opinion is correct by developing
an argument to support it.
c. To persuade your target readers to look at an issue with your point of view.

2. Structures of Analytical Exposition


The following are the general structures of analytical exposition.
d. Thesis (Statement of Position)
It introduces topics and indicates the writer’s opinion/position. It states the writer’s
point of view about the topic discussed.
b. Arguments
This arguments support the thesis. The number of arguments may vary, but each
argument is supported by evidence and explanation.
c. Reiteration (Reinforcement of
the Thesis)
It restates the point of ciew if the writer/to strenghten the thesis. We can also use the following
gambits to make conclsin in reiteration:
1) From the fact above, . . . .
2) I personally believe, . . . .
3) Therefore, my conclusion is that, . . . .
In summary, an analytical exposition should have the following parts.
a. Introduction
The introductory paragraph is used to tell the reader what topic you will be discussing. In your
introductio, you will also define the idea or issue of the text that you wish to examine in your
analysis.
b. Body
It contains a series of arguments to convince the readers. Each paragraph starts with a new
argument. Each paragraph has a main point, reason, and evidence. The issue is connected to
your argument. After stating the issue, present your argument. The following steps are how to
write an argument.
1) State your main point of your argument.
2) Write the reason of the argument.
3) Give evidence.
c. Conclusion
It is related to the analysis and the argument. Your conclusion should explain the relation between the
analyzed and the presented argument.
