✣ The Vedic society was primarily a male-dominant one.

✣ Women from the Vedic Age often struggled to get equal


status as men but very few succeeded.

✣ Vedic education was very different for boys and girls.


Boys went to gurukuls to study while girls were given
primary education at home.

✣ Some women were very learned and intelligent. Gargi


was one of them. She surprised the sages with her
questions who struggled to find an answer to them.
Malala Yousufzai
o Born in 1997, Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistan civic
activist of female education. She is currently the world’s
youngest person to receive the Nobel Prize laureate.
o When the Taliban forces invaded Pakistan, they ordered
to shut down female education. Malala stood up to them
and did not let them close her all-girls school.
o I admire Ms Yousufzai because I’m also very supportive
of the fact that ‘girls should receive education and have
equal rights as males’. This is the cause for which she
now works. And I see her as a kind of role-model for me.
Vedic Age Modern Age
✣ Women of the Vedic Age had very little to no value, o Modern women have a very hight and respectful
respect and importance. status in the society.
✣ They were viewed as the property of the husbands o They are viewed as independent
and not as separate persons alone. persons who can take their own
✣ They were only expected to do household chores decisions and choices.
