What is analogy?
Analogy basically means
‘‘resemblance of one object
to another in certain
aspects.’’ It is a way of
stating a comparative
relationship between two sets
of terms.
To understand word
analogy, one must know
the relationship of each
given word to draw its
category.
An analogy is often represented as
follows: A : B :: C : D.
A and B (of the first set) are
related to each other in the same
way that
C and D (of the second set) are
related to each other.
EXAMPLE:
kitten : cat :: puppy : dog

In this case, the relationship

described is between the young and
adult animals. The two animals being
compared are cats and dogs.
