In conventional wind power generation, transportation is increasingly
challenging because of the size of the components.
Bladeless turbines will generate electricity for 40 percent lesser in cost
compared with conventional wind turbines. VORTEX SHEDDING EFFECT Principle: vortex shedding is an oscillating flow that takes place when a fluid such as air or water flows past a bluff(as opposed to streamlined) body at certain velocities, depending on the size and shape of the body. In this flow, vortices are created at the back of the body and detach periodically from either side of the body. Vortex shedding behind a circular cylinder. In this animation, the flow on the two sides of the cylinder are shown in different colours,to show that the vortices from the two sides alternate. VORTEX TURBINE VORTEX BLADELESS The vortex bladeless device is a type of unconventional wind turbine which deliberately maximizes vortex shedding, converting wind energy to fluttering a light weight vertical pole, then captures that energy with a generator at the bottom of the pole. Vortex’s innovation comes from its unusual shape, where a fiberglass and carbon fiber mast oscillates in the wind taking advantage of the vortex shedding effect. A carbon fiber rod sits at the bottom of the mast and it’s movement inside a linear alternator generates the electricity. CONSTRUCTION OF VORTEX TURBINE WORKING An aerodynamic effect that creates a pattern of spinning vortices or whirlwinds.
The structure attracts whirlwinds which develop at determined
frequencies depending on the speed at which the wind is travelling.
When the frequency of the whirlwinds or vortex coincideswith the
frequency of the structure, the energy is absorbed reaching at a peak due to aerostatic coupling. It relies on the oscillation of its reed-like mast inreaction to air vortices to move a series of magnets located in the point ear its base to generate electricity.
This kinetic energy is then used to power
An alternator, which multiplies the frequency of the towers oscillations and converts into Usable electricity. WHY IT IS BETTER ADVANTAGES No gears and bearings, reduces manufacturing and maintenance drastically. No lubricants needed, noise less, more environmentally friendly. It reduces foundation at the bottom by 50%. Cost of energy production is 40% less than the conventional turbines. Birds can fly around them without fear of being sucked in. We can put large number of vortex bladeless turbines units in an area when compared with conventional wind turbines. DISADVANTAGES The efficiency of the energy absorbed from the wind is comparatively less than that of the conventional wind turbine. The sweep area is very small compared to a regular wind turbine. The devices cannot be noiseless, the vibration must produce noise. Vortex is only able to work within a specific wind range. A single Vortex device won’t be able to power my entire home. The requirement of control system for controlling the oscillation to meet the natural frequency of the mast and control of the frequency at higher velocity winds. APPLICATIONS Industries Remote telemetry Schools Farms Houses Off – grid power for rail signalling Off – grid lightning CURRENT STATE 2020
Vortex has launched to industrial manufacturing a first and humble series
of Vortex Nano devices, 85cm high. Now there are plans for a second and maybe even third public beta campaign, of between 1,000 and 10,000 units, where anyone could request a Vortex Nano device to test it. CONCLUSION When it comes to clean energy, wind power is considered one of the most reliable and sustainable alternatives. In summary, the generation of electricity is made possible by the small structure of bladeless turbine. High efficient power is generated. This technology will satisfy the need of continuous generation of electricity. This uses less space area hence economical for the rural electrification of India. Thank you
