RATIONAL FUNCTION
 An object is to travel a distance of 10 meters.
Express velocity f as a function f(x) of travel
time x, in seconds.
Solution: The following table of values show f(x) for various
values of x.

x (seconds) 1 2 4 5 10
f(x) (meters per second)
The function f(x)= can represent f(x) as a function of x.

x (seconds) 1 2 4 5 10
f(x) (meters per second) 10
The function f(x)= can represent f(x) as a function of x.

x (seconds) 1 2 4 5 10
f(x) (meters per second) 10 5
The function f(x)= can represent f(x) as a function of x.

x (seconds) 1 2 4 5 10
f(x) (meters per second) 10 5 2.5
The function f(x)= can represent f(x) as a function of x.

x (seconds) 1 2 4 5 10
f(x) (meters per second) 10 5 2.5 2
The function f(x)= can represent f(x) as a function of x.

x (seconds) 1 2 4 5 10
f(x) (meters per second) 10 5 2.5 2 1
a.Place the thick book a short distance from the wall and
place the mirror on top of the book.
b.Stand on the side of the mirror opposite the wall. Aim
the flashlight toward the center of the mirror so that the
light reflects off the mirror and onto the wall.
c. The student holding the flashlight goes to various distance
away from the mirror, while making sure that the flashlight
is held at the same height throughout the experiment. At
each location, the student measures the following distances,
in inches.
x= the distance from the wall to the flashlight.
y= the height of the reflection on the wall.
d. Enter them into the table below:

Distance from the

flashlight to wall (x)
Distance from
reflection to floor (y)

e. On a cartesian plane, plot a graph of your data.

Dina, Jeric, Laarni, Jutine, and Ciarra are students of MSI.
Everyday, they leave their house at 6 am. If Dina lives in San
Pablo which is 29m away from MSI, Jeric lives in Pila, 27m away
from the school, Laarni in Victoria, 25m away from school,
Justine in Calauan, 23m away from school, and Ciarra in Bay,
21m away from school, what are the chances that they will
arrive at MSI on time?

The local barangay received a budget of
P100,000 to provide medical check ups for
the children in the barangay. The amount is
to be allotted equally among all the children
in the barangay. Write an equation
representing the relationship of the allotted
amount per child (y variable) versus the total
number of children (x variable).

ASSIGNMENT

On a graphing paper, do the following:

1.Make an advance reading about horizontal and vertical
asymptotes.
2.Make a graph out of the answer on the previous
activity.
3.Identify if the graph is a vertical or horizontal
asymptotes.
According to Proverbs 2:6

“ For the Lord gives wisdom; from his

mouth come knowledge and
understanding.”
