What is MEDIA?
Derivedfrom the Latin word
“medius”, which means
“middle”.
Refers to the tool people use to
mediate or facilitate the
transfer of communication
between a sender to receiver.

Information is a broad
term that covers
processed data,
knowledge derived from a
study, experience,
instruction, signals or
symbols.

COMMUNICATION?
Two-way process of reaching
mutual understanding, in which
participants not only exchange
(encode-decode) information,
news, ideas and feelings but also
create and share meaning. In
general, communication is a means
of connecting people or places.

What is TECHNOLOGY?
The purposeful application of
information in the design, production,
and utilization of goods and services,
and in the organization of human
activities.
Technology can be described in the
following ways:
Tangible: blueprints, models, operating manuals, prototypes.
Intangible: consultancy, problem-solving, and training
methods.
High: entirely or almost entirely automated and intelligent
technology that manipulates ever finer matter and ever
powerful forces.
Intermediate: semiautomated partially intelligent technology
that manipulates refined matter and medium level forces.
Low: labor-intensive technology that manipulates only coarse
or gross matter and weaker forces.
What is LITERACY?
Literacy has traditionally been thought of as
reading and writing.
Education defines literacy as the ability,
confidence and willingness to engage with
language to acquire, construct and
communicate meaning in all aspects of daily
living.
What is Media Literacy?
According to W.J. Potter, “a set of perspective”

Importance of MIL
Come up with informed decision- Careful evaluation
and analysis of media message and information.
Learn about the real world- to segregate the truth
from lies including context of media message and
information.
Build sense of community- become active
participants in producing and sharing useful media
message and information.
MIL will help every person to become:
Criticalthinker- Critical thinking is the ability
to think clearly and rationally about what to
do or what to believe. It includes the ability to
engage in reflective and independent thinking.
