CAUSE OF IMPROPER
WASTE MANAGEMENT

Luisa L. Limaco Senior High School

Community Engagement, Solidarity and Citizenship

1. IGNORANCE

People are unaware of consequence of their unwise acts. They do

not think what will be the effect of their every action concerning
Mother Nature.

2. LAZINESS

People are not following correct

rules of proper waste disposal. They
throw their waste in what place they
want carelessly thinking what will
be the effect of that one indisposed
properly trash.

3.GREED

Instead of keeping or trading excess

things to maximize uses, they
bought new one for only like not a
need.

EFFECT OF IMPROPER
WASTE MANAGEMENT

1. HEALTH

Lung diseases, heart problems, skin

irritation, problem or abnormality
in breathing, and more are
examples of diseases due to
pollution caused by improper waste
disposal

2.COASTAL AND MARINE

ENVIRONMENT
Dangerous wastes if dumped into
the environment leeches the ground
and the ground water where some
communities get their drinking
water. In marine environment,
improper waste disposal kills
aquatic animals due to the excretion
of chemicals.

3.CLIMATE

As some waste decomposes, it

releases greenhouse gases into the
atmosphere – trapping of heat
affecting weather condition.

PREVENTION

Community Engagement, Solidarity and Citizenship

 Buy only the quantity of the hazardous product that you need to use. By
purchasing only what you can immediately use, and using ALL of the product
according to the manufacturer's directions, you will not have to worry about
disposing of unused waste.
 Buy the least toxic product that will do the job. Many jobs can be done with
less or nontoxic products. For example, vinegar can be used as a nontoxic
household cleaner. A list of other alternatives is available from the Water
Outreach Coordinator.
 Recycle! If you have leftover hazardous household material give it to
someone else who might be able to use it all up. The best way to dispose of any
hazardous household material is to use it all up properly.

Effects of Poor Drainage

Systems

Erosion

When the water runs off over poor

soil, it can cause the property
owner to compensate by
overwatering plants and trees,
causing rot and disease. An erosion
control system coupled with
appropriately sited and installed
drain systems can help alleviate the
problem.

Pests

Insects and wildlife are attracted to

water. Standing water in a landscape
is a health hazard because disease-
carrying mosquitoes and other pests
breed in it. Water-damaged
foundation walls admit these insects
into the home. Standing water in the
basement or next to the home can
cause rot and mold.

Effects of Drainage flooding

Spread of diseases

Control of water-related diseases depends on the

effectiveness of removing excess surface and subsurface
water. Health issues related to open drainages are broad
and are reported as a result of exposure to
agrochemicals, fecal waste, and water-related borne
diseases.

Road deterioration
Open drains often eventually get
clogged due to deposits of silt and
other solid substances thrown into
the drain. During the rainy season,
the clogging result in flooding that
in turn destroy roads. And to make
matters worse, the rate of road
deterioration increases with an
increase in granular moisture
content.

Breeding sites of mosquitoes

Open drains many at times contain

stagnant water due to their open
nature that encourages the build-up
of silt and waste materials that, in
the long run, clog the drainage
channels.

o Do not put grease or objects (diapers, plastic bags, wipes,

panty hose, paper towels, hygiene products, cat litter) down
your drains or toilets.

o If you have an older property, consider replacing your water or

sewer system with newer pipe.

o Ensure that appliances and their associated fittings and seals

are in good repair.

PRESENTING
"CARE METHOD/PROCEDURE"

C- Clean-up. The group plans on doing a clean-up drive weekly

in every street and unclogging of drains and to have a proper
waste management plan.

A – Action. Without action it is impossible to do all these things

planned. We need your help for the betterment of our barangay.
We need to find participants or volunteers that are capable of
doing these activities. We need "doers" not just a "listener".

R – Recycle or Re-use. Recycling is the process of converting

waste materials into new materials and objects. After collecting
the waste, we can still find some things like plastic bottles, old
paper, or even plastic and make it into an art piece or something
that we can still use again at our baranggay for its
beautification.

E  - Educate. It is seen that the cause of improper waste disposal

and clogged drainage systems is the lack of knowledge of the
people in a particular place or baranggay. Let us educate and
raise awareness in our baranggay of what will happen if we still
choose to neglect these kinds of issues that can seriously harm
or affect us.
