SILICON-CONTROLLED RECTIFIER
(SCR)
INTRODUCED BY BELL TELEPHONE LABORATORIES
SCR Is a unindirectional
semiconductor device made of
silicon which can be used to
provide a selected power to the
load by switching it ON for a
variable amount of time.
SILICON-CONTROLLED
RECTIFIER (SCR)
• SCR is a three terminal, four-layer Semiconductor device
consisting of alternate layers of p- and n- type material
doping.
• The gate terminal is connected to inner P-type layer and
it controls the firing or switching of 5CR.
SILICON-CONTROLLED
RECTIFIER (SCR)
Application of SCR
• It consist of an n-
type silicon
bar with an electrical
connection on each
end
UNIJUNCTION TRANSISTOR
(UJT)
Application
• UJT transistor is used as a triggering device for SCR and
TRIACS.
• UJT applications include simple oscillators, phase control.
• It is used as a voltage detector.
• UJT is mainly used in phase control and timing circuits.
• It is used in saw tooth generators.
• It is used in oscillator circuit design.
• UJT can also be used as to measure the magnetic flux.

PROGRAMMABLE UNIJUNCTION
TRANSISTOR
(PUT)
• The programmable unijunction transistor (PUT) is an improved
version of UJT. But PUT is a four layer PNPN device it also
known as small version of thyristors
