DEFINITION OF PUT:

• A programmable unijunction transistor is a

three-lead electronic semiconductor device
which is similar in its characteristics to a
unijunction transistor, except that its behavior
can be controlled using external components.
In a unijunction transistor, the base region is
divided into two parts by the emitter.
CONSTRACTION OF PUT:

• The construction of PUT (Programmable Uni

Junction Transistor) is similar to that of SCR, it has
four layer of semiconductor material PNPN or
NPNP structure, with three junction J1 J2 and J3,
terminal which is connected to the P-Type material
is called anode and the terminal which is
connected to N-Type material is called cathode.
The gate terminal is connected to the N-Type
material near to the anode terminal.
WORKING PRINCIPLE OF PUT:

• A programmable Unijunction Transistor (PUT) is a solid-state

semiconductor device with a unique behavior. Its working principle
involves the following key points:

• Application
FUNCTION OF PUT:

• Programmable Unijunction Transistors (PUT)

are tree-terminal thyristors that are
triggered into conduction when the voltage
at the anode exceeds the voltage at the
gate. The PUT is similar to the unijunction
transistor (UJT), but its intrinsic standoff
ratio can be set by two external resistors.

CHARATERISTICS OF PUT:

• A Programmable Unijunction Transistor (PUT) is a

four-layer semiconductor device with three
terminals: anode, cathode, and gate. It similar to
a silicon controlled rectifier(SCR), but the gate
terminal is connected to the n-type layer near
the anode. The PUT is not manufactured in high
current and voltage ratings as the SCR.
