THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

By jia jadav
INTRODUCTION
 The nervous system is the major controlling, regulatory,
and communicating system in the body. It is the center
of all mental activity including thought, learning, and
memory. Together with the endocrine system,
the nervous system is responsible for regulating and
maintaining homeostasis.
HOW DOES THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
WORK
 The nervous system uses electrical and chemical means
to help all parts of the body to communicate with each
other. The brain and spinal cord make up the
central nervous system. Nerves everywhere else in the
body are part of the peripheral nervous system.
TYPES OF NERVOUS SYSTEM
 The nervous system has two main parts: The
central nervous system is made up of the brain and
spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system is made up
of nerves that branch off from the spinal cord and extend
to all parts of the body.
BRAIN
 The brain is one of the largest and most complex organs
in the human body. It is made up of more than 100
billion nerves that communicate in trillions of
connections called synapses. The brain is made up of
many specialized areas that work together: • The cortex
is the outermost layer of brain cells
SPINAL CORD
 The spinal cord is a long, fragile tubelike structure that
begins at the end of the brain stem and continues down
almost to the bottom of the spine. The spinal
cord consists of bundles of nerve axons forming
pathways that carry incoming and outgoing messages
between the brain and the rest of the body
