Ecosystem : It is the system of interaction or interdependency of living organisms
among themselves and also with the surrounding environment.

ECHO = where organism lives,


System=formed by interacting organisms;

Biotic : These are the living things in the ecosystem.

Abiotic : These are the non-living things in the ecosystem.

Function of an Ecosystem :
The function of an ecosystem is to allow flow of energy and cycling of
nutrients.

Primary function:
Photosynthesis is the primary function of ecosystem.

Secondary function:
The distribution of energy in form of food to all consumers.

Tertiary Function:
Decomposition of the dead after a period of life time.

All the Ecosystem is a cyclic process of energy , food chains , food


webs and food pyramids.

Energy is the crucial part for biotic components , as they use abiotic
components for their uses.

The interlocking pattern of various food chains in a ecosystem
is known as Food web.

Example:
Grass may be eaten by insects , rats , etc., these may be eaten by a
tiger , snake etc.,
