Measurement
Process by which the attributes/ dimensions/
characteristics of some objects are quantified.
• Quantity is always expressed in numerical term
e.g. weight, age, time, height
• Measurement is assigning numbers to events
based on an established set of rules.
• Measurement implies the quantitative assessment
of the students performance in an exam e.g.
Intelligence is measured with terms of IQ.

An example of a set of “rules” in this situation would
be that one point is earned for each correct response,
zero points are earned for an incorrect response, and
the sum of these values is the student’s total test
score.
Evaluation
To judge the value or worth of someone or
something.
e.g. Teacher reviews a paper in order to give it a
grade.

Measurement Evaluation

Purpose of Measurement
All measurement in education has the common aims
of
(1) Arriving at defensible conclusions regarding
students' ability, achievement, or interests,
(2) Gauging student progress toward specified
educational goals,
(3) Improving teaching and learning.
Purpose of Evaluation
Assessment
It is a systematic basis for making inferences about
the learning and development of students. It is the
purpose of defining, selecting, designing, collecting,
analyzing, interpreting and using information to
increase students learning and development.
Purpose of Assessment
• To gather relevant information about student
performance/ progress
• To determine the students interests
• To make judgment about their learning process
Test
An educational assessment intended to measure a
test-taker’s knowledge, skills, physical fitness or
clarification in many other topics (belief).
• Procedure to established the quality, performance or
reliability of something
• Test refer to tool/ technique that is intended to
measure student’s knowledge or ability to complete a
particular task.
Purpose of Test
They may be used
• They are used to determine whether students have
learned what they were expected to learn or to level or
degree to which students have learned the material.
• They may be used to measure learning progress and
achievement and to evaluate the effectiveness of
educational programs.
• Tests may also measure student progress toward stated
improvement goals or to determine student placement
in programs.
