Nanomaterials

A presentation
What are Nanomaterials?
Nanomaterials are commonly defined as
materials with an average grain size less
than 100 nanometers

Up to 10,000 could fit across a human hair.

They can be one dimensional , (Example . Surface Films )
Two dimensional,(Example . Strands or fibers)
Three dimensional, (Particles)
Applications of Nanomaterials
Nanomaterials are widely used across the industries mainly due
to their benefits of having a small size and impressive
properties.
Applications of Nanomaterials can be divided as following:

Sports and leisure

Construction
Health and personal care
Transport
 Food and Agriculture
Utilities and technology
Health and Personal care
They are used in
sunscreens , skin creams
and oral hygiene products

 They have applications in

drug delivery ,
bioimaging , tumor
diagnosis and more
Sports and Leisure
• Graphene enhanced rubber
has been developed for the
outsoles for running and
fitness shoes.

• Nano dispersed clays and

butyl rubber provide an
excellent seal for air .
Used in inside of tennis
balls.
Food and Agriculture
They are used in agriculture  Applications in food
for soil and Crop industry such as
improvement enhancing nutritional
value of food and
maintenance of food
quality
Transport
Nanomaterials can be strong yet light which is why they also
have applications in transport
o An A380 uses materials containing 20 % nanomaterials.
o Automobiles utilize nanomaterials in various useful ways
Construction
Nanomaterials are used in construction as :
In steel
In concrete
In wood
In Glass
Fire resistance
Utilities and Technology
• It is used in several energy generating applications such as
Wind turbines.
• Silver Nano is used on surfaces of many household appliances.
• Nanoparticles of silica can be incorporated on fabrics to make
them water resistant
