01 DEFINITION
One type of sentence in English is complex
sentences. In a complex sentence in English,
there are two clauses, namely an independent
clause or main clause and a dependent
clause/subordinate clause. So in a complex
sentence there is a main clause and a
subordinate clause. To connect these two
clauses, you can use conjunctions or relative
pronouns. Now, a subordinate clause that uses
relative pronouns is also called a relative
clause. Relative clause itself can also be called
an adjective clause.
01 DEFINITION
An adjective clause is a clause that cannot stand alone,
also known as a dependent clause whose role is to modify
prouns and nouns in a complex sentence. In a sentence,
the characteristics that can be seen have a subject and a
predicate.

sendiri, klausa ini berperan untuk memodifikasi kata
ganti dan kata benda dalam kalimat yang kompleks.
02 RELATIVE PRONOUN
Relative pronoun as a conjunction adjective clause that
functions to replace a missing subject, object, and object
of preposition. Relative pronouns are divided into there
are two kinds, namely relative pronouns as subject and
relative pronouns as object

Conjunctions used for relative pronouns as subject are Who, Which, and That.

 that, can serve to explain person or non person.

-We see a cat who eats a fish

We see a cat which eats a fish

● RELATIVE PRONOUN AS OBJECT
Conjunctions used for relative pronouns as subject are Whom, Which,
and That.
 whom, serves to explain person.
 which, serves to explain non person.
 that, can serve to explain person or non person.

Ex:-My mother sees a man


-Vanny loves him
My mother sees a man whom vanny loves

-My mother sees a cat


-Vanny loves it
My mother sees a cat which vanny loves
after the use of the words who, which, and
that, followed by the verb. so the formula
becomes who, which, that + v + o

From the explanation above, we can see that,


which and that can replace subject and
object
03 RELATIVE ADVERB
Relative Adverb as a conjunction adjective clause that appears after certain nouns.

● Relative Adverb of Time (When) : The word “when” is generally used when a relative adverb
functions as an adjective for a noun in the form of time.

● Relative Adverb of Place (Where) : The word where is used when a relative adverb functions as
a property of the noun of place (noun in the form of a place).

● Relative Adverb of Reason (Why) : The word why is used when a relative adverb functions as
an adjective from a noun of reason.

● Relative Adverb of Manner (How) : The word how is used when the relative adverb functions
as an adjective from the noun of manner.

- the verb is affected: 1. Tense Tenses

NON FINITE CLAUSE
A non-finite clause is a clause that cannot
stand alone as a complete.

FINITE CLAUSE
She goes to school.
→The word "goes" is a finite verb because it is
used in the present tense and is tied to the subject
"she". If the subject changes, the verb can also
change

She writes every day. (Dia menulis setiap hari)


NON FINITE CLAUSE

He wanted to find a solution.


→ “to find” is a non-finite verb, and “to find a

Hi solution” is a non-finite clause because it cannot


stand alone.
