After the lesson the

learners should be able to:

1. Define the major types of terrestrial ecosystem and
aquatic ecosystem
2. Identify the ecosystem based on the following
characteristics.
3. Cite the importance of terrestrial and aquatic
ecosystem in our environment.
What is
Terrestrial
Ecosystems?
Forest
A forest ecosystem consists of
several plants, animals and
microorganisms that live in
coordination with the abiotic
factors of the environment.
Three main types of forest.

Temperate forest
Coniferous forest
Tropical forest
Temperate Forest – these
forest experience of a variety of
seasons. They have low species
diversity.
Coniferous forest – most of
them are located in arctic regions
where the temperature remains
below zero.

Tropical Forest – these forest

have dense vegetation and rich
biodiversity that accounts for 50-80
percent of the world’s plant and
animal species.
Grassland
• Are found between
forests and deserts.
• They exist on every
continent and are
dominated by
grasses.
• They do not receive
enough rainfall to
support tress.
TYPES OF GRASSLAND ECOSYSTEM:
Savanna
It is a type of tropical grassland with
scattered individual trees. They exist in
warm or hot climates where the annual
rainfall is from 20-50 inches per year.

Temperate
It is a type of grasslands where trees
and shrubs are not present and the
amount of rainfall is less as
compared to savannas.
Tundra
-It is located in the far
north, above
coniferous forests and
below the polar ice.
-These are covered
with snow for the
most of the year.
Dessert
Are found throughout
the world. These are
regions with very little
rainfall. The days are hot
and the nights are cold.
How are terrestrial
and aquatic
ecosystems
interlinked with
one another?
Terrestrial ecosystems
and the aquatic
ecosystems that they
border are intricately
interconnected
physically, chemically,
and biologically.
Why do we need to
understand the
importance of our
terrestrial and
aquatic ecosystem?
Because
failure to
understand
their
importance
could lead
to their
damage or
destruction
What do you think are
the importance of
terrestrial and aquatic in
our ecosystem?
In terrestrial
ecosystem it
provides food for
living organism
release oxygen and
absorb carbon
dioxide from the air
and regulate the
climate
While in
aquatic
ecosystem
it provides
home for
millions of
fish
species
