The Heritage of Faith is
entrusted to the Church
• It is our experience that we relate with others
according to how we trust them. It could also be
the other way around, people relate to us
depending on how deep is their trust in us.
We live the value of trust

• When we place our confidence in the honesty and reliability of another

person or thing. We trust other people whom we can truly rely on. We
trust them because we believe that they will deceive us. We trust them
because we are convince of the sincerity or their relationship with us.
Biblical Passage
1 Timothy 6:20

O Timothy, guard what has been committed to you. Stay clear of

worldly, idle talk and he contradictions of what is falsely called
knowledge.
2 Timothy 1:12 – 14
• And for its sake I undergo present hardships.
But I am not ashamed, for I know him in whom
I have believed, and I am confident that he is
able to guard what has been entrusted to me
until that Day. Take as a model of sound
teaching what you have heard me say, in faith
and love in Christ Jesus. Guard the rich deposit
of faith with the help of the Holy Spirit who
dwells within us.
Learning from the Message

• Timothy. The name Timothy comes from two words:

“timan” which means to honor; and “theos” which
means God. The name Timothy means “he who honors
God.” St. Paul is reminding Timothy to be true to his
name.
Church Teachings
• The Church teaches us . . .

The Apostles entrusted the sacred deposit of the faith

contained in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition to the
whole Church (CCC 84)

As a church, it is our duty to believe and to remain faithful

to the teachings of the apostles, to be in communion with
the Church, to celebrate the Sacraments, and to be faithful
in prayer.
Magisterium
• This task of giving a true
interpretation of the deposit of the
faith has been entrusted to the
teaching authority of the Church
which is Magisterium. This means
that the task of interpretation has been
entrusted to the bishops in
communion with the people. (CCC
• With the guidance of the Holy Spirit,
the Magisterium has the duty to listen,
to guard, and to expound the deposit of
faith to all the faithful.

• As members of the Church, we have the

duty to receive in faith the teachings and
directives of our Bishops. How wonderful
it is that there is harmony between the
bishops and the members of the Church.
(CCC 87).
• We express appreciation of our
faith from the bishops to the
members of the Church, we are
united in matters of faith and
morals and how these are
applied in our daily lives.
(CCC 92-93).
• The heritage of faith entrusted to
the Church grows by means of
prayer, study, experience, and
preaching. (CCC 94). Thus, Sacred
Tradition, Sacred Scripture, and the
Magisterium are so closely
connected with each other, though
each one works in its own way for
the salvation of humanity. (CCC
95).
Christian Life

• As followers of Christ, it is our duty to apply in our daily life what our
bishops teach us. (CCC 2032 – 2034).

• We can put on the virtue of trust at home by being docile to what our
parents command us, by doing household chores in our own volition,
and by spending quality time with our family.
• We can put on the virtue of trust in
school by being diligent in our school
works, by respecting our teachers and
classmates, and by conscientiously
following rules and regulations.

• We can put on the virtue of trust in our

parish by faithfully attending the
celebration of the Eucharist, by giving
service to the needy, and by showing
love and concern to the poor.
Christian Celebration
• The San Pedro Cathedral is the symbol
of faithfulness of the local Church of
Davao to the teachings of the Apostles.

• Our Christian Life is nourished by the

Liturgy. The Church has set up precepts
or “directions” to deepen our life of
faith.
The sixth precepts of the Church are:

 First precept: You shall attend Mass on Sundays and on holy days of
obligation and rest from servile work.

Second precept: you shall confess your sins at least once a year.
The sixth precepts of the Church are:

 Third precept: you shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least
during the Easter season.

Fourth precept: you shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence
established by the Church.
The sixth precepts of the Church are:

 Fifth precept: you shall provide for the needs of the Church.

 Sixth precept: you shall observe the laws of the Church concerning marriage.
