“Teacher’s technology
integration self-
efficacy and
competency should
remain among the top
priorities in education
and through PD

Students.
Citizen
• Teachers will take a Digital Learning Byte course on digital
citizenship.
• This was once an optional course for MSDE credits.
• Students will receive a digital citizenship lesson every
school year, not just in 9th grade.
• Once they pass a quiz on Kahoot about digital citizenship,
they will receive their school laptops.
• Teachers, administrators, and school resource offices should
continue to monitor student laptop use in classrooms.
• Currently- our SRO monitors students' social media.
Collaborator
• After teachers have learned new tools in professional
development, there needs to be an opportunity to collaborate
on how new technology and lessons can be incorporated
into the classroom.
• Each school year, a collaborative plan should be added
amongst contents, including electives, who are forgotten
quite frequently.
• Professional development will include different sessions
teachers can choose to go to that they see fit for their
classrooms. They will collaborate with other teachers during
these sessions.
Designer
• During the media specialists monthly Media
Minutes a focus should be on tools to ensure a
learner-driven environment.
• Using stations and collaboration would allow for
teachers to design authentic activities for students.
• Core leads (department chairs) and supervisors
would need to ensure all curriculum standards are
being met.
Facilitator
•Content supervisors will provide professional development on
how to move towards being a facilitator.
•This will take a minimum of two years to accomplish.
• Supervisors will need to differentiate for different teachers.
Meaning some teachers will be more comfortable with the
switch, while others are not going to want to become
facilitators of their classrooms.
• Teachers will need to use their collaborative planning to
help with being able to facilitate lessons. Starting small and
working their way up to letting go of control.
ISTE Coaching Standards
Professional Learning
Facilitator

• Coaches should be able to identify the needs of their

teachers to provide meaningful professional development.
• In providing meaningful professional development and
tools, most teachers will want to take the time to learn
and incorporate tools into their classrooms.
• Just as teachers must be the facilitators of their
classrooms, coaches also need to become the facilitator in
their setting.
Digital Citizen
Advocate

• Modeling digital citizenship is most important with

coaches. Coaches need to hold themselves accountable,
just as teachers and students do.
• Using reliable resources during workshops should also be
considered when developing a plan.
Conclusion
• Technology is an ever-changing process and teachers will always be at different
levels when it comes to using and incorporating technology in the classroom.
• Meaningful and long-term professional development is needed for teachers to
better their students.
• Teachers need to be provided content collaboratives in order to plan for their
classrooms.
• Coaches need to understand and model technology use during professional
development and in their personal lives for teachers.
• Teachers need sandbox and collaborative time to learn new technology tools.
