Plans for Animal Raising
Project
Hogs/Swine: Hog meat or pork is one of the most popular meat in the
market that is why it is more profitable raising a hog. It is primarily raised
for meat production and meat by products. Meat by-products such as
tocino, longganisa, ham, hotdogs, and many more are very in demand in
the market today. Hogs or swine have different food requirement
according to their age. They are being feed two to three times a day.

Feeds to be given at a certain age of the swine:

Starter Mash - This is given to two to eight-week-old piglets.
Growing mash - This is given to two to six-month-old piglets.
Fattening mash - This is given to ten-month-old piglets until they are
ready for slaughtering.

Alternative food like camote tops, kangkong, papaya leaves may also be
given to swine from time to time.
Goat raising:

Goats are easier to raise because they simply live on grass and
leaves of plants like ipil-ipil, kangkong, camote, and tamarind. Salt
makes goats keep a steady appetite making them grow faster and
produce more milk. They are managed for the production of milk, meat
and wool. Goats like other livestock, require the same nutrients such as
protein, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, vitamins, and water.

In the Philippines, goat meat is relatively more expensive than

chicken, pork, or beef. Goats, like cattle, may be caged in a pen or
allowed to graze on a large parcel of grassy land.
Cattle Raising:

Cattle can be raised, sell and earn a good profit from four to
six months. Cow can feed with crushed copra, grass, ipil-ipil
leaves, hay bamboo leaves, camote tops, rice bran and food
mixed with flour and sugar. Beef is cow’s meat that is a rich
source of protein and have a higher price than the pork.

Breeds for Meat production are Brahman, Ongole/Nellore,

santa Gertrudis, Bali or Banteng. There are also breeds for Dairy
production like Brown swiss, Holstein Fresian and Sahiwal and
Tharparkar for production of both dairy and meat.
. Fish Farming:

Fish farming is one of the biggest industries in the

Philippines. Our country is rich in natural resources, making
fish farming is suitable and viable source of livelihood for many
Filipinos.

Tilapia and Bangus or Milkfish is one of the most in

demand fish in the market today because of its availability.
Some fish that can also be is catfish or Hito and Carp
Ways of raising fish:

a. Dug out/excavated enclosures – A large land area is

excavated to create a pool of water where fish can be
grown.

b. concrete/plastic enclosures-it is usually used for

commercial fingerling production and research development.

c. fish cages- This is an enclosure made of nets and stakes

placed in large bodies of water like the sea, lakes, and rivers
to contain and protect fish until they can be harvested.
Preparing a work schedule in animal and fish raising Draft
your action plan using the following guide:
➢ Set a specific goal. Ex. I want to raise 20 goat both for meat
and production to start next month.
➢ What you will do to achieve your goal? Consider answering
the What, Who, When, Where, and How.
➢ What makes you different from others who are doing the
same business? Ex. You do a regular visit to a veterinarian for
consultation and regular vaccination which in turn create an
excellent production because diseases have been avoided and
prevented.
➢ Do you have a marketing plan? Where to market your
product? What marketing strategy you are going to apply to gain
more customers? It can be in a form of products and service.
