Fundamental Concepts in Resource Management
1. Values. These are what you should cherish the most
and what you should consider as desirable or
important.
2. Goals. These can be implied or definite. It is
something that you aspire to achieve. It can be short
term or a long-term goal.
3. Decisions. There are your conclusions or judgement
about a particular issue or matter. Decision-making
involves choosing between two or more options.

Family resources are classified into two


types:

a. Human Resources
b. Non-human Resources
A. Human Resources
- are those which refer to family
members and what each one
possesses.
a. Abilities and Skills - both native and acquired.
b. Attitudes - includes ideas, opinions,
inclinations, biases, and feelings toward
something.
c. Knowledge - includes facts and information.
d. Energy - the capacity to do work.
B. Non- Human Resources
- are things and elements which are
available to the family and to
everyone.

c. Goods and Property
d. Community facilities

Use of Resources to Achieve Goals
Long-term goals.
A person’s important goal in life
will be achieved only after years
of careful planning and work.
These long-term goals are
usually achieved one step at a
time.

Short term goals.
It can be attained for a short
period of time. It is important to
evaluate the value of all the goals
you set.
FAMILY NEEDS VS. WANTS
NEEDS
- are basic or essential to living. They
support our existence.

WANTS
- are desires an individual would like to
have or possess to give him
Abraham Maslow’s
hierarchy of needs
describes what
motivates us
throughout our
lives. Maslow said
that one cannot go
up the next level if
the lower levels
are not yet met or
satisfied.
Tips in Managing Resources Effectively
1. Use energy and time properly.
2. Know how to budget money to make spending worthwhile.
3. Know how to use, clean, and take care of appliances, tools, and
furniture to keep them functioning well.
4. Adopt a cheerful and positive attitude toward work to make work easy,
interesting, and enjoyable.
5. Assign responsibilities that can make one use his/her talents and skills
in doing family chores.
6. Make good use to community facilities such as parks, roads, hospitals,
schools, churches, and libraries to meet some of the family’s needs and
wants to reduce spending, and realize family goals.
