How to Present a

Military Class

Preparations

• Receive training guidance


• Get the Task Summary from the Army Training Network
• Identify risks and environmental and safety concerns
• Prepare a Deliberate Risk Assessment Worksheet (DRAW)
• Obtain all resources and training aids needed
• Practice/Rehearse your presentation
• Prepare training site
Introduction

• State the task number and name of the class


• State your name and rank
• Give a quick background of yourself
• Position/ Duty Title
• Age
• Time in Service
Purpose

• State what it is that your audience will receive from the presentation
• Example: This class is to familiarize Soldiers on the correct procedure for
presenting tasks, procedures, and steps to an audience
Terminal Learning Objective (TLO)

• Action: What you are teaching


• Example: Demonstrate, familiarize, or discuss the actions needed to present a class to the
platoon

• Condition: Set the scene where the class can take place and any training aids or
equipment that will be needed for the class
• Example: In a classroom/field environment, using a pen and notes, present key topics needed
for presenting a class to the platoon

• Standard: State what it is that the audience will receive from the presentation
• Example: Familiarization, demonstration, participate, test, or practical exercise on this class
Safety
• Safety: Safety for the class is Low, Moderate, or High
• Risk Level: Risk Level will be based off the Deliberate Risk Assessment
Worksheet (DD 2977) completed prior to the class.

• Environment: Environment is where the class will be conducted


• Example: Classroom, Field, etc.
References
• References: References will be the material used in making your class
• Example: FM 7-0 Training Units and Developing Leaders
Performance Steps
• List each performance step in sequence
• Demonstrate each performance step in sequence
• Have Soldiers conduct Practical Exercises
• Practical exercises should be incorporated towards the end of your
presentation.
• Evaluate how well the Soldier performs the task
• Retrain Soldiers who fail to perform the task to standard

• Note: Incorporate 10-minute breaks every 50 minutes
