Synopsis of The Movie
• Naomi Bishop (Anna Gunn) is a senior investment banker who deals with IPOs. After
her latest project is undervalued she faces professional setbacks including clients
losing confidence in her work. To bounce back she is hired to handle the IPO for
Cachet, a privacy company with a social networking platform.

• As Naomi in that spirit makes her move managing a burgeoning new IPO, she has to
endure not only the condescension of her colleagues, but also her imperious client
even as troubling new developments cloud the venture's future.

• Against that, the probing of a college friend turned Federal investment law prosecutor
and the conniving of her double-dealing boyfriend seem to be manageable
complications, until a betrayal by a trusted colleague threatens
to ruin everything.
Critical Incident 1: Professionalism and Mannerism

 Scene : Naomi straight away sat on the chair without invited by her boss
while Randall is playing ‘’jenga’’ in the office while working.

 Analysis of incident : Both of them show poor ethic and unprofessional


behavior since they do not show their credibility in the workplace.

 Application of theory : One should practice professionalism in workplace.

 Effect : They will not focus in their discussion because of the game. It
also shows unprofessional behavior as they are playing during working
hour.

 Recommendation : Randall should not playing game while working


especially he is the head of the company. For Naomi, should wait until
Randall asks her to take a seat.
Critical Incident 2 : Professional Work Ethics-Professional Attire
 Scene : Ed and Ian are being introduced about the Cachet by Naomi. Ed is
wearing sweater during the discussion while the others are wearing formal
dress code.

 Analysis of incident : This shows lack of professionalism in term of


appearance and dress code.

 Application of theory : Under professional work ethics, we should wear


proper and formal attire in the office especially when attending the meeting.

 Effect : People may feel unconfident with our work when they look at our
appearance.

 Recommendation : As a worker, we should take care of our appearance and


dress up in the office. We should also wear the proper attire in the
workplace.
Critical Incident 3 : Respectfulness
 Scene : Ed brings up the issue of Naomi failed on Dynocorp project last time. Naomi hurt
by Ed’s Action.

 Analysis of incident : Ed’s action show that he has no respect to Naomi as a chairlady
during the meeting discussion.

 Application of theory : It is inappropriate to make personal attack during a formal


discussion.

 Effect : Ed’s comment will cause embarrassment and hurt Naomi’s feeling. This will lead
other people to have bad impression towards Naomi.

 Recommendation : During a formal discussion, we should always focus on the issue that
we are discussing and not to interrupt something that are not relevant such as personal
issue.
Critical Incident 4 : Profanity of Language
 Scene : Randall yells at Naomi by using harsh word for doing mistake in handling
Ed as their partner.

 Analysis of incident : The usage of offensive language such as swearing and


cursing during the discussion.

 Application of theory : Effective leadership comes from effective communication.


Therefore, we should use appropriate words during the communication.

 Effect : Cursing not only offends, anger, annoys and hurt some colleagues but gives
them a chance to pass judgement on you.

 Recommendation : Randall should avoid using inappropriate and harsh word to the
employee even when he is mad.
Critical Incident 5 : Humility – Congratulation

 Scene : Naomi appreciates her workers for their success.

 Analysis of incident : Naomi shows gratitude to colleagues who work hard


and appreciation to her loyal employees.

 Application of theory : Humility presence makes more harmonies and


collaborative work environment.

 Effect : The employee will feel the sense of belonging, feeling like they are
a part of a team, they will perform better and contribute more.

 Recommendation : As an employer, we should give morale support to the


employees and appreciate their contribution to the company.
Critical Incident 6 : Rudeness
 Scene : Naomi do not knock the door before entering Randall’s office and
attack him by using harsh words.

 Analysis of incident : It is improper to enter someone room without knocking at


the door first.

 Application of theory : The good work ethics will show the positive attitude.

 Effect : Other employees will judge the rude employee by giving bad
impression his/her .

 Recommendation : Naomi should respect her boss by knocking the door


before enter the office and control her emotion when talking to her boss.
CONCLUSION

 There are a lot of things that we can learn from this movie in terms of
professional and unprofessional behavior in the workplace.

 All those scenes been presented highlights the importance of work ethics
and the appropriate way to communicate with others.

 We can conclude that all the elements in work ethics and way of
communication are important in our life as it will affect ones relationship
with others and will also affect our emotional in the work place.

 Everyone has an important role in the work place, as a leader we have to


always respect and appreciate our employees and as employees we
must have good manners and always take our responsibility seriously.
